DUI checkpoint slated for Incline Village at Lake Tahoe during July 4 holiday
The Nevada Highway Patrol, along with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparks Police Department, and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office are planning a sobriety check point at Lake Tahoe for the Fourth of July holiday.
The check point will be held in Incline Village and is being funded by a Joining Forces grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety.
Due to the fireworks display and other special events planned at Lake Tahoe, a large increase in both vehicular and pedestrian traffic expected during the holiday, said NHP Sgt. Scott Farmer.
The increase in law enforcement presence at the lake will help deter motorists and pedestrians from entering the roadways while impaired. In addition to the check point, additional officers will be patrolling the area roadways throughout the weekend to further protect pedestrians and other motorists from impaired drivers.
The NHP would like to urge motorists and pedestrians to use extra caution during this holiday and use a designated driver. NHP urges motorists and passengers to buckle up and not to use cellular devices while driving.
