The Carson City Elks Lodge # 2177 515 N. Nevada Street will hold a fundraiser brunch for Huntington's Disease research. The brunch is Sunday July 10, 2022, 10 a.m. to noon.

Monday, July 11, Brother Dan Palmer will feature Eric Henry Andersen in a rescheduled appearance. A founding member of Reno band The Novelists, the casual chat and jam format will give audiences a close-up view into his life and career.

Frank Tortorich, local author, will lead a hike focused on the history of Carson Pass. He will share some stories during a relaxed hour and a half walk. All participants will leave knowing more about Kit Carson, John C. Fremont, and the pioneers of the area. Call 209-258-8606 to reserve/ensure a spot.

Mike Mahoney will lead a hike focused on spotting and appreciating local birds. He will also be pointing out the trees of the area. This will be on an easy trail. The event is about 2 hours. Call 209-258-8606 to reserve/ensure a spot.

Retired USFS Ranger and published author Frank Tortorich leads this hike by asking “Do you see what you are looking at?” and urges people to see glaciation and more in the forest they think they know. A meander over a couple of miles, pausing to appreciate the many hidden treasures of the forest. All participants will leave with knowledge of the forest! This event is 1-2 hours to Frog Lake. Organizers of the July 4 fireworks show that was cancelled at the last minute by the Carson City Fire Department due to wind conditions, has been rescheduled for this Saturday, July 9, between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. wind permitting at Mills Park.

UPDATE 8:27 p.m. The Carson City Fire Department has canceled the fireworks display at Mills Park due to gusty winds.

The 2022 Carson City Independence Day fireworks show hosted by RSVP, also known as Nevada Rural Counties Retired & Senior Volunteer Program, is happening Monday evening in Mills Park, with fireworks to begin around 9:30 p.m. Those watching are encouraged to tune into radio station Wild 102.9 FM for synchronized music accompanying the display.

Each July 5 since 2013, the League to Save Lake Tahoe recruits hundreds of volunteers to participate in organized efforts to clean Tahoe’s beaches.

On Saturday July 9 at 2PM, Wylder Hotel Hope Valley continues its Eastern Sierra history series with a 50-minute presentation, “Into the Jaws of Hell.”

Interested in experiencing the thrill of flight in a single engine aircraft? The Carson City EAA Chapter 403 is hosting another Young Eagles event at the Carson City Airport on Saturday, July 9.

Carson City’s own Rockers and Boomers (formerly School of Rock: Senior Years) senior choir will be performing throughout the capital city to raise funds for pets in need throughout July.

The current artist-in-residence in Silver City, Brian Schorn, is also a certified meditation instructor. On Tuesday July 5 at 10am, he is offering teens and adults a free session in Calm-Abiding meditation, which is used in mindfulness practices.

Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, Inc. (RSVP) has free Farmers Market coupons for Carson City low income seniors through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP).

“RSVP has only 350 booklets to distribute in Carson City and we want to make sure that all seniors who qualify will be able to enjoy the abundance of fresh produce while supporting our local famers,” said Molly Walt, C.E.O.

Happy Friday Carson City! The long weekend is finally here, and with temperatures in the mid 70s to 80s, it's going to be a very enjoyable one at that.

Let's take a look at what is happening throughout the region this weekend!

The annual Genoa Americana Celebration will be returning to the Mormon Station Historic Park on July 4 beginning at 10 a.m. and will continue throughout the day and into the evening.

The event kicks off with the Children's and Pet Parade at 10 a.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an active shooter training designed to educate and inform the community.

The training will be held on July 28, 2022, at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, Nevada from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.in the Senior Dining Room.

Quilt Show with Music! Come and join us on Sunday afternoon, July 17th at Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 4895 S. McCarran Ave, Reno. We are excited to share our love of quilting, knitting and music! We will display quilts of all kinds — antique, classic and modern quilts while showcasing musical talent. Our quilt group will have a display of quilts in our Fellowship Hall - opening at 12 noon and closing at 4pm.

Presented by Greater Nevada Credit Union, the popular Dragon Lights Festival opens to the public Friday, July 1 at 6:00 p.m. and runs through August 12. The festival will transform the Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Gardens into an illuminous wonderland during Reno’s mid-summer nights.
