State launches 'Conserve Nevada' grant program; supports conservation and recreation projects

The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources on Tuesday launched the next phase of one of the state’s most important and successful conservation and recreational grant programs. Formerly known as the Conservation and Resource Bond Program approved by Nevada voters in 2002 (or “Q1”), the new and expanded program will be known as “Conserve Nevada.”

League to Save Lake Tahoe supports Tahoe Keys Control Methods Test to tackle Invasive Species

This morning, the Lahontan Water Quality Control Board voted unanimously to approve a test of methods to tackle the growing infestation of aquatic invasive weeds in the Tahoe Keys, located on Lake Tahoe’s south shore. Aquatic invasive species, including the plants plaguing the Keys, are the most pressing ecological threat to Lake Tahoe’s health and beauty.

Up on top of the sierras I have had reports of 150 to 180 inches, while down at the higher lakes such as Caples Lake they received 90 inches at the resort.

A one antler’d deer visited Eleanor Bernsten's home near Carriage Square Park in northwest Carson City Wednesday. The deer has visited one other time before. Her residence sees its share of wildlife, including a bobcat that she calls "bobkitty" who stopped by earlier this month for a peek inside.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space secures $4.3M in grants for trails, wetland protection

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space division have secured $4.3 million in grant funding on two projects in East Carson City.

According to Carson City Parks and Recreation Open Space Manager Lydnsey Boyer, the first grant received was in the amount of $2.4 million for the Prison Hill West trail.
