High Fives Foundation para-athletes to compete in Peter Stetina’s Paydirt race in Carson City

Peter Stetina’s Paydirt gravel bike race has become a staple in the High Fives Foundation event calendar. Since 2017, the event has raised over $63,000 for the non-profit which has gone to rehabilitation programs and now to build future para-cycling categories in the Paydirt race.

Sand Harbor boat ramp at Tahoe closed due to low water levels, Cave Rock boat ramp open

Due to continued low water levels, the Sand Harbor boat ramp will remain closed for the upcoming summer. Beginning on May 27 at 6 a.m., the Sand Harbor boat ramp parking lot will be opened to provide a limited number of parking spaces for vehicles with kayaks and paddle boards, as well as parking for oversized vehicles.

775 Offroad and Recovery hosts May 14 Show n' Shine at Casino Fandango

My friend Julie sent me a photo of lumps on manzanita leaves in her yard asking me what they were. I’ve seen many similar lumps and bumps on willows, poplars, oaks, apples and many other plants during my career as a horticulturist. My answer is they are galls.

NDOW biologists monitor fish die-off at Wildhorse Reservoir in Elko County

On Friday, April 8, the Nevada Department of Wildlife received reports of numerous dead fish at Wildhorse Reservoir in northern Elko County. After surveying the area, NDOW biologists have confirmed that a die-off event occurred, impacting mainly yellow perch and a few channel catfish and trout.

The lake was mostly ice-covered earlier in the week on Sunday, April 3. Due to increased air temperatures and high winds, the reservoir was completely free of ice by Wednesday.
