Carson City's Prison Hill OHV area to close weekdays for trail improvements, open weekends

Multi-agency partnership restores water flows to Little Washoe Lake

Forest officials were evaluating the availability of trees after the Caldor Fire but determined enough areas around the lake had trees. Some of the normal cutting areas may not be available but maps will be provided at the time of purchase.

Since every pruning cut is a wound and these insects are attracted to the chemical signals sent out from wounds, we can avoid insects infesting and weakening trees, particularly drought-stressed trees.
A walk along the ponds behind Western Nevada College

The ponds are fed by runoff from Hobart Lake from time to time. Walking along the trails near the canyon, with my dog, we could hear the sound of running water and when we came upon the ponds they were full and water was rushing from one to the next lower one.

Seasonal closures apply to many National Forest recreation sites including beaches, campgrounds, picnic areas and forest roads.

These are fairly large, fierce-looking creatures called leaffooted bugs with leaf-like bits on their hind legs. They can be 3/4 to 1-inch in length, which you have to admit is daunting. They are strong fliers and when something that big flies near your face, it’s startling!
