The Salvation Army in Carson City is seeking to hire people for several part-time positions for its Morning Latchkey and After-School kids’ programs. The programs provide cost-effective before- and after-school care for guardians who need to be able to work during those hours.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation will be having an open house on Saturday, August 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be at the historic Wungnema House, located on the east side of Mills Park across from Carson High School off Saliman Road.

The Nevada Retired School Employees Association serves the interests of any retired school employee living in the state. NRSEA promotes the economic, social, and professional welfare of retired school employees and helps them maintain identity with the educational profession.

Last week we wrapped up Camp GOTR at the Carson City Community Center. Throughout the week, girls learned how to work as a team, explored characteristics of a good friend, and discussed how to navigate uncomfortable conversations and emotions. We are sending a BIG energy award to all of the volunteers and supporters of GOTR as well as the employees of the Carson City Community Center for making Camp GOTR possible. In an endeavor to aid the victims of the wildfires in Maui, the Nashville Social Club in Carson City, Nevada, is launching a series of fundraisers during the month of August, benefitting the Maui Strong fund of the Community Foundation of Hawai’i.

The first event kicks off this Saturday night, Aug. 12, when NSC will donate 10% of the proceeds from dinners purchased by patrons attending the "Most Wanted: Country Rock Burlesque Show" in the Swan Music Hall to the Maui Strong Fund.

Carol Scott, the executive director of Wild Horse Children’s Theater was one of five outstanding educators from schools and performing arts centers around the U.S. who received the Freddie G. Fellowship.

Carol was flown to New York in July to work one-on-one with Broadway professionals at the twelfth Annual Freddie G Fellowship G from July 13 to 16.

CCPROS are hosting several evenings of weed pulling at Lone Mountain Cemetery on Wednesday, Aug. 9, Aug. 23 and Aug. 30 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Aug. 12 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Horsecreek Ranch, CCPROS is also hosting a thistle dig at one of their conservation easement properties. Welcome to the Carson City Chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby. Our chapter includes people from Carson City and the surrounding areas who are concerned about climate issues and want to take action to lessen the impact of climate change. We are a community organization affiliated with Citizens’ Climate Lobby and Citizens’ Climate Education (https://citizensclimatelobby.org/). Our purpose is to develop and implement activities that provide accurate information about climate change and what can be done to lessen the effects of climate change.

The Carson City Historical Society is asking the public for volunteers to help give tours of the famous Foreman-Roberts House in Carson City on Sunday afternoons.

Tickets are on sale for the 14th annual Grateful Harvest Dinner taking place Monday, Sept. 18, at Nashville Social Club in Carson City. This annual event is The Greenhouse Project's primary fundraiser with proceeds allowing the organization to continue its work of agricultural education and growing food for the community's food insecure.
