Carson City Supervisor candidates differ on Carson Street project

Downtown’s capital project divided Carson City supervisor candidates Thursday night as two incumbents and their challengers crossed verbal swords by cutting to the chase.

Senators Flip The Script From Last Year Against Lancers

The Senators of Carson High took on the Lancers of McQueen Thursday afternoon. Last year in the very first round of team regionals, the Lancers absolutely put the hammer down on the Senators and showed no mercy cruising by with a 17-1 victory.

This year, however, things would be very different for the Senators who managed to flip the script of last year and dominated the Lancers this afternoon.

The Senators were up 10-2 after the second round of action and even almost all of the substitutes contributed to finish out the third round and leave a final score of 15-3.

Human-caused Cascade Fire holds at 30 acres in Desolation Wilderness

The Cascade Fire burning near Snow Lake on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe continues to hold at 30 acres as of Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The wildfire is located entirely in the Desolation Wilderness. No structures are threatened.

Lake Tahoe boat inspections return to launch ramps for fall and winter

Beginning Oct. 1, boat inspections at Lake Tahoe will move to select launch ramps and winter hours will begin. Tahoe RCD inspectors will be stationed at the Cave Rock boat launch from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, weather permitting.

No inspector will be stationed at Lake Forest boat launch from Sept. 8 through Jan. 2, 2015 due to a rehabilitation project. Inspections will be available at Lake Forest once the project is complete. Please call the hotline for availability of alternative inspection options.

Carson City Visitors Bureau new office becomes Gateway to the Capital City

The Carson City Visitors Bureau has a new home at 716 N. Carson Street. The relocation stems from many of Carson City’s visitor attractions being downtown and the proximity to the Nevada State Museum, State Capitol building, Legislative Council Bureau and the Historical District.

According to CCVB Executive Director Joel Dunn, the new location will provide greater visibility for visitors looking for information, will be in the epicenter of all downtown events as the visitors bureau continues to expand the umbrella of new arenas for Carson City tourism.

Outdoors with Don Q: Pyramid Lake trout season opens Oct. 1

This is a reminder that Pyramid Lake, which is located about 30-35 miles north of Reno-Sparks, will open on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 to fishing for Lahontan cutthroat trout. That large, desert lake (roughly the same surface size as Lake Tahoe) has a three-month trout closure, each year, from July 1 to Sept. 30.
