UNR launches 'Living With Drought' website, education campaign

Today, Cooperative Extension launched its Living With Drought website, a one-stop shop where homeowners, gardeners, farmers, ranchers, natural resource managers and others can find information to help them respond to their various drought-related challenges.
Lawsuit settlement needed by April 4 or South Lake Tahoe July 4 fireworks show canceled

The message to Joseph and Joan Truxler is simple and clear: Meet with us, come up with a solution and drop your lawsuit by April 4. If the suit isn't dropped by then the South Lake Tahoe 4th of July Fireworks display will be canceled.
Nevada’s unemployment rate drops again in February; Carson City at 9.9 percent

Carson City had the highest unemployment rate among the state’s three metro areas in February at 9.9 percent. Las Vegas had the lowest jobless rate at 8.6 percent.

Nevada gaming revenue in February falls 14 percent, Carson City down 1.8 percent
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 03/28/2014 - 8:07amNevada casino gaming profits fell by nearly 14 percent in February, with Carson City area casinos seeing a 1.8 percent decrease, according to figures released Friday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Carson City area casinos, which include gaming establishments in Gardnerville, Minden and all other areas of Douglas County except Lake Tahoe, took in gaming revenue of $7,458,457 in February, compared to $7,598,406 in February 2013.
Youth Theatre Carson City Production of Guys and Dolls, Jr. continues through weekend

Youth Theatre Carson City is excited to announce its upcoming production of Frank Loesser’s "Guys and Dolls, Jr." to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 28 - 30 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.
The cast is comprised of more than 60 local youth ages 5 to 17, who play all the characters in this classic tale.

Driver uninjured in Highway 50 accident a mile up Spooner
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/27/2014 - 2:36pmCarson City Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a single vehicle accident in the westbound lane of Highway 50 approximately a mile up. First responders report the driver of the vehicle was standing outside of it. Carson City Fire Department reports the driver wasn't injured.
Also responding to the accident were Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The report came into NHP dispatch at 2:24 and Carson City dispatch at 2:27 p.m.
Cyber security tops list in Nevada Homeland Security funding priorities
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 03/27/2014 - 1:53pmCyber security, intel sharing, public information, operation coordination and communication are the five top priorities for 2014 determined by the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security, chaired by Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Sandoval and 16 voting members made the list of five spending priorities, with cyber security being No. 1, using a $4.7 million grant by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that was secured by Nevada last week.

This is a reminder that if you're one of many tens of thousands of big game hunters interested in drawing a 2014 hunting tag for Pronghorn Antelope, Black Bear, Mule Deer, California Bighorn Sheep, Desert (Nelson) Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Elk and Rocky Mountain Goat in the State of Nevada, be advised it is now time to submit your application(s) to hunt one or more of the big game species.
