Women to Women Nevada returns with a new episode May 30

This week's Women to Women Nevada is a repeat of a Feb. 28 interview with Carol Swanson, retired U.S. Army nurse and current Mary Kay sales director.

If you have already seen this one, Women to Women Nevada is taking a short mid-season break. A new episode will air on Thursday, May 30 and a new contest will launch with several fine prizes up for grabs. Details will be announced soon on Carson Now.

5.7 California earthquake shakes Northern Nevada

Hundreds in Northern Nevada felt the earth shake after a 5.7 magnitude earthquake centered in California.

According to University of Nevada, Reno's Seismology Lab the 5.6 magnitude earthquake took place at exactly 8:47 p.m. 31 km North Northwest of Quincy, California. It was centered at a depth of 7.69 km below the surface.

Nevadans to Vote on Mining Tax Cap in 2014

UPDATE: The Nevada Assembly voted along party lines Thursday to allow a public vote on a resolution that would repeal Nevada’s longstanding 5 percent tax cap on mining net proceeds.

Five Assembly members took the opportunity to speak prior to the vote on Senate Joint Resolution 15. Assemblywoman Irene Bustamante Adams and Assemblyman Skip Daly both spoke in favor of the resolution.

Assembly Passes Marriage Equality Resolution 27-14

CARSON CITY— During Thursday's floor session, the Nevada Assembly passed Senate Joint Resolution 13 — to legalize same sex marriage — in a vote of 27-14.

The resolution passed in the Senate on April 22 in a vote of 12-9. The only Republican Senator to vote in favor of the measure was Sen. Ben Kieckhefer. Kieckhefer has declined requests from various media outlets asking him to comment on his position, saying that his vote in favor of the resolution should speak for itself.

Western Nevada College holds first Multi-faith Baccalaureate Service

Western Nevada College held a unique Multi-faith Baccalaureate Service on May 20 in Carson City, the first in its 41 plus years of existence.

According to religious statesman Rajan Zed, co-organizer of this Service along with Douglas Diversity Student Club of WNC; faith leaders belonging to Christian (various denominations), Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Baha’i and Native American traditions blessed the graduates with their respective prayers in this Service. Dance and music also formed part of this ceremony and a representative of non-believers also addressed the Service.
