Nine rescued from Lake Tahoe after boat flips

Lt. Pete Van Arnum said El Dorado County Sheriff’s boat unit and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a vessel taking on water near Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe at around 2 p.m.

I do it in honor for the time, before the renewed Muslim war against the world and before the “patriot” act, when people here and abroad knew that the American flag stood for liberty and liberation from tyranny.
But now…?
Now I look at the stars through teary eyes as each star is morphing into a swastika or a hammer-and-sickle — or is it a crescent moon?
Legacy and history shine at Stewart Indian School's Father's Day Powwow

The annual Father's Day Powwow at Stewart Indian School draws a number of quality American Indian arts and crafts vendors, and is also a time for alumni, former employees and their families and friends to gather at the former campus at 5500 Snyder Avenue in Carson City.
Mile High Jazz Band presents 'Farewell, Goodnight' An Evening of Jazz and Poetry
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 05/27/2013 - 12:57amThe Mile High Jazz Band with guest vocalists Jakki Ford and Cindee LeVal will be joined by five poets and readers for "Farewell, Goodnight," a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry in Carson City.
The event will be on Tuesday, June 11, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under.
The program will feature award-winning poets and readers Krista Lukas, Terri Breeden, Rita Geil, Susan Sara Priest, and Amy Roby.
Distinct Ink to donate proceeds from tattoos to Relay for Life

Walk in-only customers from noon to 8 p.m. can get a one size tattoo, any color, placed anywhere. For every $40 spent on tattoos, $20 will be donated to Relay for Life. Tattoos will be done by Zach and Lori Mueller and John Seaver.

The tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course at Lake Tahoe's south shore, features match-ups of sports legends and Hollywood stars such as Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Aaron Rodgers, Jerry Rice and Ray Romano. Newcomers this year will include former MLB superstars Chipper Jones and Pudge Rodriguez; Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall.
Donations sought for Children's Museum annual garage sale fundraiser

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada will gladly take those household goods, furniture and furnishings off your hands. The Museum will hold its annual fundraising garage sale July 27 in Carson City and is looking for donated items.
Donations are being accepted now and can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily at 813 North Carson Street. If you have items that need picked up call (775) 884-2226.
