Strings in Schools concert to feature music of Jay Ungar and Molly Mason
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 05/02/2013 - 7:12amCarson City Symphony's Strings in the Schools led by Carson City Symphony Education Director Sue Jesch present a festival featuring the Music of Jay Ungar and Molly Mason on Saturday, May 11.
The concert will be at Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. It includes a workshop from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for string players of all ages, a potluck lunch, and a public concert beginning at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the festival and the concert is free, donations welcome.
Brianna's Law unanimously passes Nevada Senate

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 05/01/2013 - 4:42pmEach year we celebrate National Police Week in May. In Nevada, the celebration kicks off in Las Vegas with a relay run to Carson City. Public Safety Officers carry a baton that bears the names of those officers who have given their lives in the line of duty on the inside of the baton.
On Wednesday, the day before the statewide law enforcement ceremony, the baton and runners passed through Douglas County and did the hand-off to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT members at the RV area in Indian Hills. The SWAT team then ran the baton to the Legislature where the spot has been held.

Two taken by CareFlight after Carson Street crash
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 05/01/2013 - 3:38pmUPDATE: Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's patrol officers were called Wednesday afternoon to an accident involving two vehicles at Carson and Colorado streets. Two were sent by CareFlight to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Carson City Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt now underway
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 05/01/2013 - 9:12amIn celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the Carson City Historic Resources Commission has launched its fourth annual Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt beginning today through May 28.
The adult scavenger hunt will consist of 30 historic architectural features, all within in the historic district, and the kids scavenger hunt will consist of 20 historic features within a smaller area.
Completed entries must be submitted by 4 p.m. on May 28 to the Planning Division at 108 E Proctor Street. Entries with all correct answers will be entered into a drawing to be held on May 30.
Carson City Bike Month Bigger Than Ever

In honor of National Bike Month, Muscle-Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City has developed a full schedule of events for 2013, including the Tour de Carson May 5- a 30-mile bike ride for more advanced riders, along with two Family Cruise rides, one on May 15 at 6 p.m. starting at Telegraph Square, and a second Ride with a Vet on May 18 in conjunction with Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
