Carson City restaurant and food inspection report

The following food inspection report is made weekly by the Carson City Health and Human Services Environmental Health Division. This report is for the week ending May 3, 2013.
Inspections include a cafe and catering outfit; bar and lounge facilities at two golf courses; deli, meat, bakery and produce departments at a grocery store; a convenience store and several restaurants.

Women to Women Nevada is televised on Charter Media every Thursday at 7 pm on Channel 3 (Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, Lake Tahoe) and 15 (in Carson City, Gardnerville, Dayton). The locally produced and privately owned program features Northern Nevada women who are making a difference in their communities and in the region.

Carson City prison escapee convicted of federal firearm possession

A 48-year-old man who escaped the Nevada Correctional Facility in Carson City months before it was permanently closed was convicted in federal court Thursday of being a felon in possession of a firearm, said U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Christopher Lee Lang, 48, of Grass Valley, Calif. entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Court Judge Morrison C. England, according to a news release.

Carson City Symphony presents 'At the Movies' 29th Pops Party Concert

The beautiful back lawn of the Governor's Mansion is the site of the Carson City Symphony's twenty-ninth annual "Pops Party" concert on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. The program, "At the Movies," features the Carson City Symphony, Carson Chamber Singers, Strings in the Schools youth orchestra, and guest singer Jakki Ford. Grounds open and pre-concert entertainment begins at 2:00 p.m. Admission is free.

Mile High Jazz Band presents Merry May Jazz at Comma Coffee

Mile High Jazz Band presents "Jazz in the Merry Month of May," a program of big-band jazz favorites in the Basie-Ellington tradition, featuring guest vocalista Jakki Ford and Cindee LeVal, on Tuesday, May 14, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St., Carson City.

Dayton Intermediate School locked down during acid bomb scare

Dayton Intermediate School was locked down for about 45 minutes because of a chemical scare Thursday.
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called to a report of suspicious materials at the school.

Signups continue for Sunday May-King Tracks 5K Run

The May-King Tracks 5K Fun Run and Walk, sponsored by the Carson City Area Wellness Association is on Sunday, May 5. Registration continues Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9 to noon at the Carson City Health and Human Services Office, 900 E. Long, Carson City.
The run begins at Riverview Park and ends at the end of East 5th Street. Race check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. See flier below for more details.

Memorial at the Nevada Capitol honors fallen law officers

As part of National Police Memorial Month, members of various law enforcement agencies came together on Thursday to honor fallen officers.

This was the 16th year of the officers memorial ceremony which pays tribute to the 123 Nevada peace officers who have been killed in the line of duty.

Carson City volunteers to observe Pluto early Saturday for astronomy research project

A research group will use Carson City volunteers to help measure Pluto early Saturday morning at the Jack C. Davis Observatory.

The Research and Education Cooperative Occultation Network, a citizen science research project exploring the outer solar system, is conducing a campaign to measure Pluto just before 1:30 a.m.
