Good day Carson City. Today is Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, and it is the final deadline day to vote on the future of a grant that would help fund the highly successful summer outdoor concert series hosted by the Brewery Arts Center and Levitt AMP.

Sierra Academy of Style to hold fundraiser for victims of Camp Fire in Paradise, Calif. All day Tuesday and Wednesday, Sierra Academy of Style will donate 100 percent of its proceeds to the Camp Fire victims in Paradise, Calif. Sierra Academy of Style is located at 1851 S Roop St No. 100 in Carson City. Call 885.7417 to schedule your appointment. There will also be a donation fund if you would like to give a monetary amount.

Tuesday Morning Walk to Mills Park hosted by Muscle Powered. 9 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for its weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. No dogs allowed in park. Meet in the small parking lot on Seely Loop off of Saliman Road. Water and closed-toe shoes required. All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths.

Carson City Republican Women's Club November meeting. 11 a.m. Carson Nugget. The November meeting of the Carson City Republican Women's Club will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at the Carson Nugget. Guest speaker Jason Woodbury will speak on the subject of the Constitution and grand juries. At this meeting we will also honor all military veterans accompanied by a Carson City Republican Woman member with a lunch paid for by the Club. Social time is 11 a.m. and the meeting is called to order at 11:30 a.m. Cost for the lunch is $20 per person cash only. Reservations are required by RSVP by Friday, Nov. 16 by either contacting Lori Bagwell at 775-220-3646 or by email at carsonrepublicanwomen@gmail.com. You will be held responsible for payment if you do not cancel your reservation 24 hours prior to the meeting.

Carson High School senior, Vitalant team up to encourage blood donations. Holidays are a great time for gift-giving and family get-togethers. Another meaningful activity, that could be wonderful for so many people, is donating blood. Vitalant and Carson High School Senior Nik Hylan are asking you to help by donating blood this holiday season. Vitalant sees a decline in donations during holidays as well in times of bad weather and illness. Now is a great time to encourage friends, family, and peers to donate. You are gifting life. People who donate between Monday, Nov. 19 and Wednesday, Nov. 21, will receive a Bleed Silver and Blue T-shirt in support of the Nevada Wolf Pack as they take on UNLV. Tuesday Evening Conditioning Hike to Carson Tahoe Medical Loop, Wellness Mile hosted by Muscle Powered. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for free hikes each week to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Park in the parking lot opposite Pesti Lane on Medical Parkway. We will walk on Medical Parkway all the way around the hospital and on sidewalks in the neighborhood around the hospital. All hikes start at 5:30 PM. For the winter, these hikes are moving onto paved paths in town and will be 3-5 miles long and with duration of about 1-1/2 hours. Water and sturdy boots or athletic shoes required. Please bring a flashlight because it is dark on these walks.

— Signups underway for Dec. 1 Carson City's Holiday with a Hero Holiday Crawl. Carson City's Holiday with a Hero announced Wednesday that its annual Holiday Crawl through downtown Carson City will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 5 to 10 p.m.

The Holiday with a Hero committee hosts the Holiday Crawl, a festive pub crawl through downtown bars, to raise money for the annual shopping spree for children who classify as homeless in Carson City. The Holiday Crawl draws hundreds annually who walk through downtown Carson City, taking in entertainment from talented local bands and artists, including Bootleg, Eross, Jimmy V Music (Jimmy VanDeuson II), Athena McIntyre, and Gary Wheeler, as well as enjoying food and beverages offered at local bars.

In past years, Holiday with a Hero donations annually have benefited approximately 300 children living in cars, campgrounds, motels or shared spaces, and are part of the Carson City School District McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program.

All proceeds go to Holiday with a Hero, the annual drive by local law enforcement, firefighters, military service members and others to provide a Christmas shopping trip for underprivileged schoolchildren (kindergarten through eighth grade). Each child receives a $100 Walmart gift card to shop with their leader. The Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Department of Corrections and several other local organizations provide volunteers for the event. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, also donations are welcome. Check-in is 4 p.m. in Downtown Carson City at the Studio 177 W Proctor St.

Tiffani and Bailee's 6th Sealed Toy Drive underway now through Dec. 9, drop off boxes throughout Carson City. Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those of you who didn't know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. So it was no surprise to those closest to her that when the social worker assigned to her case asked her what she needed, Tiffani replied with, "How can I help?" There are multiple locations throughout the Carson City, Carson Valley and Reno area.

Winter Conditioning Program at Well Being Fitness. 9 a.m. 1851 S Roop St, Unit 145, Carson City. Winter sports and activities are on the horizon! Join us at Well Being (Massage and Functional Fitness) and prepare your body for success. Our Winter Conditioning Program starts on October 29. Two separate 3 week programs are offered w/a one week break (Thanksgiving) between the two. We focus on strength, dynamic balance and stability, and muscular endurance (yes, that means cardio!) as they relate to winter sports and activities like snow-mobile excursions, snow shoeing, skiing and snowboarding, and all the Nordic and back country activities on your list.

Patricia Ann Probst: An Artist of the Movement. 11 to 6 p.m. The Charlie B Gallery is proud to announce the coming of a ceramic celebration art show and sale: “Patricia Ann Probst: An Artist of the Movement.” The gallery will offer many works created by Patricia Ann Probst (1941-2016). Christmas tree permits available on Carson, Bridgeport ranger districts. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase now through Dec. 25. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating. Christmas tree permits must be purchased in person and are issued on a first-come, first-serve basis for $10 each, with a limit of two trees per household. Permits are nonrefundable and nontransferable, and only valid through Dec. 25, 2018. The Ranger Districts have a limited amount of Christmas tree permits available, and once those allotted permits are sold, no more will be available.

— The Nevada Artists Association (NAA) presents the annual Nevada Day Art Show, now through Nov. 30. Entries in all categories are judged with cash prizes awarded to winners. The NAA Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.

— Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is currently seeking individuals and pairs interested in leading interpretive programs in one of our many parks and open spaces. Interested individuals and pairs are encouraged to apply. If interested, go here.

Carson City Art Gallery features Show by Erik Holland. 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Celebrate the artwork of Erik Holland. He has worked as an artist his entire adult life. He started painting murals in Fairbanks, Alaska in the 1990's. He then moved to Reno, Nevada, achieving his dream of living in the high desert. He has had a one man show in Reno every year since 2001. The show was born on a desire to depict the many sides of America. Amerika is spelled with a K to denote concern with our troubled times. The images come from the life of artist Erik Holland, starting in 1980, when he painted "Spirit of the Eighties" The show is in fact a retrospective of the artist's life from 1980 to the present. — The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, Americana with Cadmium Orange, by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Depio is an artist and an advocate for public art in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was awarded the 2016 Fellowship Grant in Painting by the Nevada Arts Council (NAC). He has worked on various exhibitions and projects with the Nevada Museum of Art, Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery, and UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum, among others. Depio graduated from Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines. He lives in Las Vegas with his family. Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E. Musser Street in Carson City.

Time to dust off those ten-speeds Carson City, because May is Bike Month in the capital city!

Carson City’s Muscle Powered hosts bike month each year in addition to their year-round volunteerism.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.

Green Our Planet will host the second annual Northern Nevada Giant Student Farmers Market on Wednesday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fuji Park on The Park Grass in Carson City. The Northern Nevada Giant Student Farmers Market will feature approximately 10 schools throughout the northern part of the Silver State.

Miller Counseling and Wellness Center began partnering with Douglas Center for Hope and Healing to offer grief support groups for adults in Carson City in 2024. There has been an amazing turnout, and the group appears to be filling a much-needed void in services to our community.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.

In collaboration with Chartwells, the Carson City School District foodservice partner, Culinary Arts students from Ms. Tammy Borreman’s class at Carson Middle School competed in a “Discovery Kitchen Cook Off.” Similar to a mini version of the Food Network’s Iron Chef, the timed cooking competition featured teams of three students who prepared succulent dishes for a judging panel.
