With the restrictions put in place across Nevada to curb the coronavirus pandemic, Holiday with a Hero organizers considered canceling this year’s event.

It was a full house at the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Thursday afternoon with every seat in the Ormsby Room filled to celebrate promotions and retirement.

Happy Saturday Carson City, and Happy Winter Solstice! Are you all geared up for the holiday season? We've got some great events happening this weekend throughout the region, check them out below!

Last Saturday I was part of the Rotary Club's Shopping Spree. This annual event pairs a Rotarian with a needy child in hopes of purchasing gifts for the child and members of his/her family.

The young man that I accompanied was a rather precocious and talkative eight-year old who was a bit jaded when it came to acknowledging the magic of Christmas. However, during the shopping part of the activity, my new young friend became very animated and hopeful as he talked about selecting gifts for his family and for himself.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

Heroes come in all forms, whether from law enforcement, first responders, doctors and nurses, or military, and our local heroes came out in full force today for the 16th annual “Holiday with a Hero,” which pairs local children with a hero for a shopping spree hosted by the Market Street Walmart.

The holidays may be a bit brighter for some Carson City families thanks to a substantial donation from a local business. SlotWorld donated $15,000 to Holiday with a Hero, which pairs children in need with law-enforcement officials and first responders for a $100 shopping spree at Walmart.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 31st season of the Nutcracker Ballet, a Feast with a Hero fundraiser at Slot World, Small Business Saturday throughout Carson City and Carson Valley, photos with Santa, a Telegraph Square sign dedication, Polar Express train rides at the V&T Railroad and more!

First responders from around the area waited on diners at Bodine's Casino and SlotWorld in Carson City Saturday, part of the Feast with a Hero fundraiser that raises money for the local Holiday with a Hero program.

Holiday With a Hero, the volunteer effort to brighten Christmas for hundreds of Carson City children, has received its biggest donation from local business Nevada Fence.

Along with a check for $10,001, the owners of Nevada Fence issued a bit of a challenge to others to help with the cause.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Nevada state capital, and there is no shortage of holiday events and activities to make the season bright.

With winter weather having arrived, it seems only appropriate the last Friday of November is when Carson City celebrates the holiday season in a big way by ringing in the spirit of giving with the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

With steady rain in the city early this morning, slushy snow in the foothills and heavy snow in the Sierra, we are on our way to winter even though it is still technically fall. Carson City Elks Lodge No. 2177 delivered in a heroic way Tuesday night by presenting organizers of the Holiday with a Hero project with a contribution of $4,000 for the Christmas shopping program for local students in need.

For most, waking up this morning to rain was a big relief given the fire situation over the past few months. Today is Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018.
