Douglas County declares state of emergency due Tamarack Fire

The Carson City SDA Church Pantry is open every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 405 E. College Parkway. The pantry is across the parking lot from the church in the beige building next to the playground. If you are in need of food, please come by. Masks are required while in the building.

Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national non-profit organization dedicated to feeding and providing emergency veterinary care to pets of the homeless population is hosting its 12th annual Give a Dog a Bone Week, a national event to collect pet food and supplies for those in need through Aug. 29.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS) Highway Patrol Division is furthering its mission to promote safety on Nevada’s highways with the launch of a new, statewide anti-human trafficking campaign across multiple platforms now through October 10.

Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT), the Nevada Trucking Association (NTA) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) have combined efforts with the Nevada Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Division to educate commercial vehicle drivers on identifying the signs of human trafficking while positioning State Troopers as a resource to help human trafficking victims.

A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday morning on felony assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing after allegedly chasing his co-worker with a firearm following a physical altercation.

On Thursday morning, Kevin James Rice was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the 3300 block of Executive Point Way in reference to a welfare check.

Carson City Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a small brush fire near the Mountain Street trailhead, in the area of 1300 Mountain Street near Fleischmann Way and West Long Street.

The fire was called into dispatch at 1:42 p.m. First responders on scene reported a small, 5-foot by 5-foot smoldering fire in the brush, possibly a warming fire. A battalion chief on scene reported the fire was extinguished at 1:51 p.m.
