Lt. Gov. Kate Marshall formally announced Thursday afternoon that she will resign and accept a position with the Biden administration.

Dense smoke that has settled in throughout Carson City, the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding communities is coming from the Caldor Fire burning in El Dorado County, according to a National Weather Service forecaster.

The Caldor Fire burning southwest of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County south of Pollock Pines has ballooned to 6,500 acres. There is no containment. The fire Is burning In the steep Middle Fork Cosumnes River Canyon East of the Omo Ranch area, four miles south of Grizzly Flats and is sending smoke and ash into the Lake Tahoe Basin and northern and western Nevada.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Aug. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
