The Caldor Fire south of Pollock Pines in El Dorado County, Calif., grew to 65,474 acres overnight Wednesday with zero containment as of Thursday morning.

The Dixie Fire burning in northern California and advancing toward Highway 395 is now more than 635,728 acres and is 33 percent contained as of Wednesday, according to InciWeb and Cal Fire. The fire has destroyed 1,208 residential and commercial structures.

UPDATE: Air quality monitors through airnow.gov as of 1 p.m. Tuesday are showing a "hazardous" reading in Reno and "very unhealthy" in Carson City and South Lake Tahoe, "unhealthy" in Minden and Gardnerville. Earlier Carson City reports showed the AQI monitor was not functioning properly.

Dense smoke that has settled in throughout Carson City, the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding communities is coming from the Caldor Fire burning in El Dorado County, according to a National Weather Service forecaster.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Aug. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Items up for discussion include new subdivisions, transfer of funds to Nevada Rural Housing Authority, contracts and more.

NV Energy is monitoring fire weather conditions in the Carson-Minden PSOM zone and a Public Safety Outage Management event is possible for that zone only on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 starting at 11 a.m. and ending on Wednesday, August 18 at 6 p.m. This outage will impact approximately 500 customers.
