Born Janet Sylvia MacDonald May 6, 1941 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Jan moved to Nevada in 1959. As a single mother with a young son, she attended the University of Nevada, Reno during the day and worked evenings to support her family. It was during this time that Jan danced and performed with famous Bertha the Elephant in the main showroom at John Asquaga’s Nugget.

This area is normally under several feet of snow at this time of year and likely has never been conducive to ice skating. Hat tip to Sierra Foothills Report.

But this year is the winter that never started. No snow at all in December. Look up at the hills, and you might mistake it for September.
Lake Tahoe 'Most Un-Wanted' campaign aims for invasive species public awareness
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 11/29/2011 - 12:58pmThe Tahoe Resource Conservation District has released a series of educational posters which identify some of the biggest threats to Lake Tahoe Basin, as well as what visitors, residents and even kids can do to help. Titled “Tahoe’s Most un-Wanted,” the first three posters feature aquatic invasive species, fine sediments from runoff and invasive weeds, and are free to pick up or request for local schools, businesses and other organizations who would like to display them publicly.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports: The road is open, but there is still a LOT of snow around the lake. The lake is about 80% ice covered with some fishable water. Unfortunately, there is enough snow on the ice, you can't tell what is safe and what isn't. With this week's warm temps and some wind, next weekend may be a different story.

Yosemite National Park entrance at Highway 120 Tioga Road opens Saturday
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/15/2011 - 9:31pmTioga Road will open for the season on Saturday, June 18 at 8 a.m. for all vehicle traffic, Yosemite National Park officials announced Wednesday.
Tioga Road, which is accessed by Highway 395 at Lee Vining in Mono County, Calif. and is bound by both sides by State Highway 120, is the popular east-west crossing of the Sierra Nevada.

The Brown Bite Continues! More Browns are beginning to move in to areas along the east shore following the Pond Smelt.
On recent trips we have seen pretty solid numbers of Browns, some days having to cover more water than on others, but the fish are there.
