Man who drew knife and gun at Carson City bar, arrested in Lyon County after chase

A man who had reportedly flashed a gun and a knife at patrons inside a Carson City bar led authorities on a chase early this morning into Lyon County. It ended with the suspect being tasered and detained at about 1:45 a.m.

Carson City police chase ends; woman wanted on four felony warrants arrested

A brief car chase through Carson City ended with the vehicle crashed and a woman, wanted on multiple warrants, arrested. The crash happened Wednesday in the area of Northridge and Roop streets in Carson City. A Carson City Sheriff's deputy stopped Anthony Honeycutt, 33, in the 4100 block of South Carson Street after the suspect reportedly tried to turn the wrong way and almost hit the deputy's vehicle. According to the arrest report, the deputy noticed a book on how to grow marijuana on the rear seat of the suspect's vehicle when he approached. He also noticed the smell of marijuana when talking to the suspect, and a plastic purple pail with baggies in it on the floorboard.

State reaches agreement with counties

The State of Nevada announced today that it has reached agreements between the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) and Eureka County, Elko County and Clark County (Mt. Charleston) to continue to provide “all-risk” emergency services to these counties.

These services were scheduled to be transferred back to the respective counties June 30, 2012, per Gov. Brian Sandoval’s recommended budget now being considered by the Nevada State Legislature.

Tahoe agency approves Boulder Bay project

NEWS RELEASE — In a board room still crowded following a 12-hour hearing, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board voted to approve the Boulder Bay Community Enhancement Project. Four years in the planning, the project will replace the aging Tahoe Biltmore Casino in Crystal Bay, NV with an eco-friendly, mixed-use resort that will significantly reduce stormwater pollution and vehicle emissions associated with the site.

Nevada taxable sales up for 8th straight month

Statewide taxable sales for February increased 4.3 percent over last year and represents a 5 percent increase for eight consecutive months, the state's Department of Taxation reports today. Carson City saw a 10.4 percent increase over last year, likely because of the State Legislature session.

Hobart Reservoir, Nevada to open for 2011 fishing season

Hobart Reservoir, a small, high-mountain reservoir, located at an elevation of 7,600 feet in the mountains between Carson City and Lake Tahoe, will open for the 2011 fishing season on May 1.
Because of its high elevation and location, this reservoir is normally covered with ice, and surrounded by deep snow drifts, when it opens on May 1.

It will remain open to fishing through September 30.

Gardnerville man identified in Foothill Road accident

UPDATED: A 56-year-old Gardnerville man has been identified as the victim of an accident Tuesday night on Foothill Road in Douglas County, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Dan Steven Navone died at the scene of the single-vehicle accident, reported at 8:33 p.m. Navone was driving a 1997 Chevy Tahoe in the eastbound lane and apparently overcorrected. The overcorrection caused the him to vault over a barb wire fence, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez.

Carson City father and daughter die in Highway 50 accident

An 8-year-old girl died overnight after an accident on Highway 50 east of Carson City in Mound House on Friday afternoon, which also claimed the life of her father, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports today.

The girl's identity has not been released. Her father, David James Melendrez, 30, of Carson City died at the scene of the accident. The condition of a young boy, 3, also inside the car with his sister, and his father Melendrez, is not known at this time, said Trooper Dan Lopez.

One dead, two children seriously injured in Highway 50 accident

At least one person is dead and two children are seriously injured after a three-vehicle accident this afternoon east of Carson City on Highway 50 at Mound House, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

The accident happened at the intersection of the highway and Kit Kat Lane shortly before 4 this afternoon. Two children were taken by helicopter to Renown Medical Center with life threatening injuries, said NHP Sgt. Chuck Allen.

Carson City man dies after van rolls down Ash Canyon

An early morning rollover accident took the life of a 23-year-old Carson City man, authorities report.

The man was found dead after being thrown from a van after it had rolled down an embankment in Ash Canyon about two miles up a narrow road, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Primka. The accident was reported at about 12:45 this morning.

Authorities arrest woman after child allegedly left alone in vehicle

A Carson City woman faces a gross misdemeanor charge of child neglect after allegedly leaving her two-year-old child alone in a Chevy Blazer.
Whitney Rose Warren, 22, was arrested at a parking lot in the 3200 block of Market Street on Monday at about 6:20 p.m. The arrest report states that a witness called authorities in reference to a small child left alone in a locked vehicle in the parking lot.

Carson City woman jailed after allegedly running over boyfriend

A Carson City woman faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly backing her vehicle into her boyfriend and dragging him for two blocks as he held on.

Donna Marie Mireless, 41, is being held on $30,000 bail. During a dispute with her fiance of two years, Mireless attempted to leave and backed her vehicle out of the driveway and into her boyfriend, the arrest report stated.

A Carson City mother is in jail and faces felony child abuse and false imprisonment charges after she allegedly locked her child in a room and told authorities to come pick him up because she couldn't take care of the boy anymore.

CareFlight responds after woman falls out of moving car

A CareFlight helicopter was dispatched this afternoon after a woman apparently either fell or jumped out of a moving vehicle near Telegraph and Stewart streets in Carson City.

The accident happened around 3 this afternoon. The woman was said to be consciousness and was speaking with paramedics but the extent of her injuries are undetermined, authorities said.

As of 3:30 this afternoon CareFlight landed at an empty parking lot area of the Carson Nugget. She will be likely be transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Man faces additional charges in alleged fake check cashing scam

A Carson City man faces seven felony counts of commercial burglary and seven counts of uttering a forged instrument after being arrested for allegedly attempting to cash counterfeit checks at a casino on the account of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California.
