Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, chairman of the Homeland Security Commission, along with 16 voting members determined key priorities for the Homeland Security Working Group 2012 grant application process.

The March 2 Commission meeting was dedicated to identifying and establishing the Commission's priorities for the Federal Fiscal Year 2012 Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP).  The federal funds allocated to the State of Nevada in 2012 total $4,628,239 (State Homeland Security grant for $2,801,316; Urban Area Security Initiative grant for $1,826,923).

The Nevada Prolife Coalition would amend the state constitution to protect “the unalienable right to life of every prenatal person.” Simply put, it would define life as beginning at conception.

The Honorable Judge James E. Wilson determined that the description of the effect of this bill was nowhere near adequate. He did not say that the measure was illegal, however, but he did order NPC to substitute the following language into the initiative before they collect signatures:

CARSON CITY – For the first time ever, Washoe County voters will soon be able to register and make changes to their current voter registration online.

Beginning in mid-April, the Washoe County Registrar of Voters office, working in collaboration with the Nevada Secretary of State’s office, will make the switch to Nevada Online Voter Access (NOVA); allowing citizens to go directly online and register to vote or update their current information.

Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto announced today that the Ninth Circuit United States Court of Appeals issued an opinion today in ACLU v. Masto, granting the state’s request to overturn an injunction against enforcement of Nevada’s Adam Walsh Act.

The sci-fi thriller "Chronicle," currently showing at the Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City, explores the world of ESP in general and telekinesis in particular. The explorers are three teens, Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Steve (Michael B. Jordan) and Matt (Alex Russell). Most of the movie is composed of film clips from Andrew, a nerd and unpopular at school.

The three pals ask Andrew, who records everything, to video a hole in the ground. The three enter the hole and find a blue rock which glows as they touch it. Quickly their noses begin to bleed.

I'm afraid that I haven't got a lot to say about the horror film "The Woman in Black," currently on display at the Fandango Galaxy movie house in Carson City. I read the book on which it is based years ago and only recall that the Lady in question was not very happy.

So watching the dour film I was a little lost as Arthur Kipps (Daniel Redcliff of "Harry Potter" fame) set off on his lawyerly duty to evaluate a mansion now in disrepair. His firm is to wind up the estate and depending on how well he does Kipps may keep his job.

After three nationwide searches Douglas County Manager Steve Mokrohisky found the person he wanted for the top finance job right in his own back yard. The pick was Christine Vuletich, the City of South Lake Tahoe's director of finance.

Vuletich, who was hired in October 2004 as the director of finance, has been responsible for the overall operation and oversight of the city's finance department, and has served as primary financial advisor to the city council and city manager.

Ranking first with 46 points was California, followed by New Jersey and Oregon with 40 points. In last place was South Dakota with eight points, with Idaho second to last with nine points.

The film "The Darkest Hour," flickering at the Fandango Galaxy in Carson City and elsewhere, is a desperate stab at making a movie. It had little intelligence, a poor cast and a lot of scientific hokum that apparently depends on audiences being to poorly educated to know when the science is all goofy.

Motel 6 announces the opening of a new franchise property in Carson City, Nevada. The 82-room property, which was previously a Motel 6 corporate subsidiary, is located at 2749 S. Ormsby Sportsmen’s Association:
OSA is a local sportsmen’s club, which was founded way back in 1945; and with a 2011 paid-up membership of more than 220 members, it is one of the oldest and largest sportsmen’s group in the State of Nevada.

November 18 is a very significant date in the lives of several thousand hardy Alaskans. Those folks live in a unique location known as Barrow, Alaska, which is the northernmost community in the United States.

On November 18, the sun sets below the horizon at Barrow and it will not peek back up over the horizon until January 24 (weather permitting).
