Capital City Arts Initiative brings back it’s Nevada Neighbors Series with a talk by artist Zoe Bray inside the former BRIC building on East Proctor Street.

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus continues its Winter MusicFest with the 11th annual presentation of J. S. Bach’s masterpiece The Passion According to St. Matthew. The first concert of the four concert series will take place on Friday, March 18, 7:00 pm, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Carson City (3597 N. Sunridge Drive).

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus continues its 11th annual WinterFest with Elizabeth Pitcairn in Concert, performing with the legendary Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius violin.

The program opens with Felix Mendelssohn’s symphonic choral masterpiece Elijah, Part 2, featuring vocal soloists Anna Helwing, Joy Strotz, and Becky Earl, sopranos; Liudmila Mullin, mezzo soprano; Brad Perry and Sherman Modeste, tenor; and Stuart Duke, Chris Nelson and Chris Langton, baritones.

Do you want to sing in a chorus in 2016? The Carson Chamber Singers, conducted by Michael Langham, will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, January 19, at 6:30 p.m., at the Carson High School Choral Room, 1111 N. Saliman Road in Carson City for a pair of concerts in March. The larger Carson City Symphony Chorus will begin soon.

Feeling feisty? Head over to the Feisty Goat Pub for a sampling of their draft beers, and get entered to win a great raffle when you buy a ‘Suds for Seniors’ tasting ticket. If you’re feeling the music, then jam with Josh and Jenera at Sassafras or head to Living the Good Life for jazz with Lynne Colvig. Bring some art into your new year with one of our many art exhibits. The Nevada Artist Association has just switched up their gallery and has a New Year’s show to offer you. The group also works with the Carson Visitor Bureau and showcases a different artist each month in the Visitors’ Center: currently Bob Hickox. Comma Coffee is hosting a reception this evening for the January artist in their revolving Backseat Gallery, so head down at 5 p.m. for some finger food and the unveiling.

String players of all ages and levels are invited to join the eighth annual Christmas Carol Play-along on Friday, Dec. 18, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. inside Carson Mall. This free event is hosted by Carson City Symphony Association and Carson Mall.

Violin, viola, cello, bass, and harp players are welcome to come and play. Bring your music stand. Everyone else, come and listen or sing along. Admission is free.

If you haven’t caught Wild Horse Children’s Theaters production of Babes in Toyland yet, grab the kids and get down to the Brewery Arts Center for their final performance.

The clock is ticking for last minute shoppers. Luckily, Carson City has great options for everyone on the list. Telegraph Square in downtown will be hopping with a Santa parade, vendors, and a pirate ship, in addition to great shops. The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a weekend-long art sale with one of a kind options throughout the campus. Art is a great gift, and making it is even more fun. Carson City Pottery is holding an open house today; a gift certificate for a pottery class is perfect for all skill levels.

SATURDAY:

Oh, the weather out there is going to be frightful. A blustery storm is on its way in today, so you may want to bring in that inflatable snowman. Heading outside will be rewarded though. Ladies will find great specials at the Ormsby Club and Carson Cigar Co. Live music will be playing at Glen Eagles and Living the Good Life.

Don’t let hump day get you down, Carson City. Lunchtime blues with Dave Leather at Comma Coffee will get you through the workday. Geeks Who Drink trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. is a fun and silly way to pass an evening; and you can win prizes. TACH (Traditional Association for Cultural Harmony) a non profit organization presents "Cross Cultural - World Music and Dance" on Dec 5th, 2015. This concert will present a collaboration of Indo-American artist, an Indian Dance, Indian Classical, Jazz, Fusion, Saxophone, Flute, Harp.

Carson City Symphony does some great things: one of which is the Strings in the Schools program. Join our talented STRAZZ students tonight at the Community Center as they perform the annual ‘This is not a Christmas Concert’ concert. Sassafras will be filled with some swanky jazz; Judith and Rocky are hosting this week’s jazz jam. Santa has been spotted at Red’s Old 395 and, naughty or nice, little boys and girls will get a photograph to take home. It’s hard to believe that Christmas morning is just one month away. First things first, however, is Thanksgiving. Carson City, NV–The national small business movement, Independent We Stand, announced the quarterfinalists of the 2015 Independent We Stand Independent Small Business of the Year Award. Nearly 22,000 votes were cast for 315 nominees during the nominations phase. For the second year in a row, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery has been nominated for this award and made it to the quarter-final stage of voting.
