After-hours burglary being investigated after man found dead from fall at Carson City shopping center
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 11/17/2019 - 11:26amUPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says the incident, in which a man was found dead after apparently falling through the roof at a Carson City shopping center business, is being investigated as a possible after-hours burglary and that the deceased man had been dead for some time.
According to Sheriff Furlong, workers at a hair salon came into the business to open up for the day. When they arrived they found a deceased male on the ground, who appeared to have fallen through the ceiling.

Plumas County wildfire prompts smoke advisory for northern Nevada, Carson City region

Haze will likely remain in the valleys around the Reno metro area through the rest of the day.

The Walker Fire burning in northern California's Plumas County has prompted the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a dense smoke advisory for portions of northern and western Nevada, through 11 p.m. Sunday.
The advisory is for Lassen and Eastern Plumas counties, Eastern Sierra County, northern Washoe County, the Greater Reno area as well as Carson City and Carson Valley in Douglas County.

Attendees by the hundreds set up low-backed chairs, picnic blankets or simply laid down on the grass as an enticing lineup of bands took the stage.

UPDATE Sunday: The Clifton Fire was approximately 66 acres as of early Sunday morning. Air and ground resources were to continue suppression efforts through the night, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center via Twitter.

Second in 2 days: Carson City Fire Department called to brush fire near landfill
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 06/23/2019 - 5:35amUPDATE 10:51AM: Smoldering material from Friday's fire at the landfill caused it to reignite and burn around a 20 foot by 20 foot swath before being knocked down, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause of Friday's fire remains under investigation. The area is being monitored by public works.

Is it March or May? Cold, windy and wet storms through Tuesday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 05/14/2019 - 3:55pmAn unusual and persistent weather pattern will send cold Pacific storms into the Carson City region Wednesday through early next week, a pattern that is more typical of early March rather than late May.
For Carson City and throughout western Nevada we can expect periods of rain and strong gusty winds and for the Sierra, heavy wet snow starting at around 8,000 feet and dropping to 6,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.
