Nevada public land agencies announce statewide fire restrictions

Nevada’s public land management agencies remain committed to protecting all residents and visitors through fostering wildfire-resilient landscapes and communities. On Sunday morning a pair of balloonists meandered across the skies of Carson City. Coming from the southeast they were eventually lost behind the trees heading toward Silver Oak Golf Course.

The balloonists were able to get in a last good view over Carson City on Mother's Day and ahead of a change in the weather beginning Monday.

Carson City emergency crews called to bicycle crash in Ash Canyon

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Sunday morning to the area of Ash Canyon for a bicycle rider who crashed and suffered injuries.

Carson City health briefing Sunday: No new COVID-19 cases; 18 active, 2 recoveries in quad region

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Sunday morning, April 5, that there are no new positive cases of COVID-19 in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. The number of active cases in the Quad-County region remains at 18 with two recoveries.

A pair of storms are on tap for the Sierra and Carson City region this weekend that may result in travel disruptions in the mountains, aviation impacts and recreational hazards, according to the National Weather Service.

As of Sunday morning, Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting no additional cases of COVID-19 in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. The total number of cases in the Quad-County region remains at 11.

Carson City area weather: Colder, breezy with rain and snow ahead this week

There will be another round of spring storms for the Carson City and Lake Tahoe areas Monday through Thursday, bringing gusty winds, rain and snow showers along with a return to colder temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City area Sunday weather update: Snow through this morning

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday for the Carson City area and valley floors and noon for Lake Tahoe and surroundings areas in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service. With the return of snow, many chain restrictions are in place Sunday morning across the Sierra and western Nevada.

Carson City Sheriff: marijuana-related shooting involving multiple minors brings new arrests

On January 25th, shortly before 8 p.m., Deputies were dispatched to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center regarding two males who had arrived with reported gunshot wounds. One victim was treated for minor head injuries, while the second victim was transported to Renown Medical Center by Careflight for treatment. Both have since been released from the hospital.

Deer hunters save 'King of Carson,' Carson City's famous buck, from tussle with clothesline

Matt Parent of Carson City and Shawn Dixon of Reno have been friends since high school and both have been avid hunters their entire lives. So when Parent called Dixon to ask him to come look for a particular deer in Carson City last weekend, Dixon was more than happy to drive down.

However, this was no ordinary deer hunt, but instead, a deer rescue.

Carson City area weather: System may bring dusting to valley floors into Monday morning

A fast moving, weak storm will bring the potential for light snow to the Sierra, northeast California, and western Nevada late Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. While significant accumulation is not expected, travel impacts are probable, with the worst conditions likely Sunday night into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City area weather: Holiday travel best by Saturday, snow in Sierra by Sunday

With the holiday travel period beginning this weekend, the National Weather Service says warm weather will last through Friday with a storm expected to bring gusty winds Saturday with snowfall in the Sierra by Sunday.

UPDATE 1:48PM: All phone lines affecting Lyon County and Douglas County dispatch are now back up and working, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The cause of the outage is unknown at this time.

As of Sunday morning, some phones for the Douglas County and Lyon County Sheriff's Office, including dispatch are down. 911 lines in Douglas County were not affected but other lines were down.
