Silver Oak Senior Men Golf Club readies for 2021

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Each passing month gets us closer to golf time! The Silver Oak Senior Men’s Golf Club has officially teed it up for the 2021 golf season. SOSMGC is open to golfers 55 years of age and older and all handicap levels.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

On a beautiful Northern Nevada day, werewolves, pirates, escaped prisoners, witches, scuba divers, a Top Gun Tom Cruise look-alike, and other costumed creatures came out in force on Friday, October 30th to play in the Halloween Golf Scramble held at Silver Oak Golf to support the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada and the Carson City Chamber of Commerce.

Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. Signups underway for Carson City Chamber's Halloween-themed golf tourney

At his most recent press conference, the governor declared many of us as COVID fatigued. The Carson City Chamber has partnered with the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada to temporarily reduce some of the fatigue by organizing a bit of Halloween golf and fun for those who just want to enjoy the outdoors while practicing all the current COVID safety protocols.

Since winter is right around the corner, there may not be many chances left to play golf.

7th Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer golf, bench press tourney raises more than $13K

Carson City Kiwanis hosted the 7th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Golf Tournament and Carson City Bench Press Championships at Silver Oak Golf Course Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. The sold-out event resulted in 140 golfers teeing off and 9 weightlifters bench pressing to raise over $10,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and over $3,000 for the Marilyn Elaine Scholarship.

The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. Carson City golf tournament update: Jim Sapien wears the Silver Oak crown

Jim Sapien is the 2020 Sunday Men’s Club champion at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City. Sapien fired a 74-75 to best Dan Wilson by four strokes (77-76) during the two-day club championship Aug. 22-23. Brian Sweet (74-80) and Michael Moriarty (79-75) tied for third, while Scott Lusty was the low net (after handicap is applied) champion over the field with 141.

These two beauties walked across the 12th tee at Silver Oak Golf Course on Wednesday morning. Not being a sportsman I don’t know the difference between deer and elk, but these guys are pretty big.

On Sunday morning a pair of balloonists meandered across the skies of Carson City. Coming from the southeast they were eventually lost behind the trees heading toward Silver Oak Golf Course.

The balloonists were able to get in a last good view over Carson City on Mother's Day and ahead of a change in the weather beginning Monday.

Moriarty takes Men's Club honors at Carson City's Silver Oak

Michael Moriarty took low gross honors with a 74 as the Sunday Men’s Club kicked off its season March 22 at Silver Oak Golf Course. The season was delayed because of bad weather the week prior, and play was in accordance with mandated health precautions.
