South Carson Street groundbreaking ceremony, International Film Festival, live music and more this weekend in Carson City region

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt with millions of caches hidden worldwide; in fact, there are hundreds of them hidden right here in Carson City. This Saturday, Feb. 29, join the Park Rangers on an interactive adventure searching for three caches hidden within Riverview Park.

Ride will normally consist of two loops which are 10-15 miles long each. The ride pace will vary depending on rider level, but will usually be about a 12-16 mph pace.

The Thursday, Feb. 20 hike is at Linear ditch, central near Fremont Elementary School. Meet on Cardinal Way off of Saliman Road.

Thursday hikes start at 3 p.m. and are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and closed-toed shoes are required.

Hat and poles recommended If weather conditions are bad hikes will be cancelled.
