It was a cold day, but a beautiful one to have a wrapping party at Home Instead Senior Care in Carson City. We had a big turn out with volunteers who came Saturday to wrap over 400 presents for our seniors in the community.

Designed for outdoor enthusiasts, scouts and scout leaders, and anyone who works or spends time in remote environments, this course teaches advanced skills to be used in emergencies when help from professional first responders may be far away. It’s a holly, jolly Christmas! Cherie Shipley and Lake Tahoe Entertainment present the 18th Annual Community Holiday Show "Joyful Noise" this Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

More than 150 seniors in Carson City received a visit from Santa Claus and his helpers on Saturday through Friends to All, a Nevada nonprofit whose goal is "touching hearts with a visit."

Where does the time go? Everyone has heard this a thousand times, but people still need to be reminded of the question anyway because everyone, regardless of what they believe, needs to stop and take a moment to enjoy the moment.

Come to Brewery Art Center’s Performance Hall on January 25, 2020 to experience Loud As Folk, hosted by Spike McGuire. This is one night only, and the showcase will be feature performances by Whitney Myer, Jelly Bread’s Dave and Cliff, Mel and Gia, and Tyler Stafford. With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. In December, Mondays don't really seem like Monday. At least for those of us caught up in the holiday spirit of giving and kindness. What a weekend of community fellowship this was among Carson City locals and we're just getting started, counting down the days until Christmas.

The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Admission is free.

The days keep moving along, ever closer to the weekend and huge helpings of Christmas holiday activities. The Carson Victory Rollers presents the 2019 "Season's Beatings, a Scrimmage for Charity" this Sunday at the Carson City Community Center. Donations collected go to Carson City Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.

Once again Home Instead Senior Care in Carson City asking our wonderful community to help us with gifts for our Senior's here in our community. We have Senior's in long term care facilities that have no family, and have no home to call their own.

Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, also known as TOCCATA, presents its 14th annual performance of Handel’s beloved “Messiah,” along with seasonal carols. Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) and United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) completed a successful book drive during October, which is National Housing American Month. The “At Home With Reading” Book Drive, a joint effort that collected more than 2,000 books, benefitted the residents of NRHA’s nine northern Nevada affordable housing properties.

Officially designated 1P/Halley, this is a short-period comet visible from Earth every 75–76 year and is the only known short-period comet that is visible to the naked eye from Earth and the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime.

Friends to All is dedicated to bringing joy, cheer and friendship to seniors in our community during the holiday season. Since 1999 this group has been working to meet the needs of those with limited financial resources who are home bound or in care centers with little or no family nearby. Each year 150 to 200 visits are averaged in the Carson City area.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include Polar Express train rides, Touched By Angels hosts a garden craft show on Saturday, a night photo shoot at the Nevada State museum, Rob Sherwood headlines the Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget, 'Matilda the Musical' and more!

CARSON CITY — Meals on Wheels Carson City joins the 2019 Subaru Share the Love event as a member of Meals on Wheels America — one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the campaign. From Nov. 14, 2019, through Jan. 2, 2020, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.

First-year University of Nevada head men’s basketball coach Steve Alford has recruited five high school seniors to play for the Wolf Pack in 2020-21. Alem Huseinovic, DeAndre Henry, Tre Coleman, Daniel Foster and Je’Lani Clark have signed National Letters of Intent to play at Nevada.

Carson City TRIAD presents Fire and Fall Prevention for Older Adults, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

Traditional Irish and Scottish musicians Cooking with Turf will return to Carson City this Saturday for the Brewery Arts Center's Celtic Music Series, which is celebrating its sixth season.

A hit on Broadway, A Year with Frog and Toad was nominated for three Tony Awards – including Best Musical. Based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books, and featuring a hummable score by Robert and Willie Reale, this whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons and tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout.

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club's Christmas Commitment Fundraiser for Home Bound Seniors will be taking place on Sunday, Nov. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Carson Lanes Eleventh Frame Lounge, 4600 Snyder Avenue in Carson City.
