CARSON CITY — A contingent of high school students from across the Silver State will be at the Nevada Legislature on Tuesday to celebrate GEAR UP — the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program Grant —that is a federally funded, seven-year grant that serves underrepresented students.

Clark County Assemblyman Tyrone Thompson dies at 52 at Carson Tahoe Medical Center

Flags around the capital city flew at half mast today following the death of Assemblyman Tyrone Thompson, Democratic Majority Whip, of Las Vegas.

Thompson was in care at Carson-Tahoe Medical Center when he passed away early Saturday morning.

He was 52 years old. At this time, no official cause of death has been reported.

Reno's Rajan Zed to open Las Vegas, Clark, Henderson, N. Las Vegas, Mesquite Councils with Hindu mantras

Clark County Board of Commissioners and City Councils of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Mesquite in Nevada will start one each of their meetings during May with ancient Hindu prayers, containing verses from world’s oldest extant scripture.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the invocations from ancient Sanskrit scriptures before these meetings. After Sanskrit delivery, he then will read the English interpretation of the prayers. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and root language of Indo-European languages.
