2019 is the 34th Year RSVP will host the Annual Nevada Day Carnival in Carson City,
a benefit for RSVP’s volunteer driver program, respite care, homemaker services and other lifesaving volunteer programs that help seniors maintain their dignity, self-respect and independence.

Presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders visited Carson City Friday and hosted a Town Hall in the gymnasium of the Carson City Community Center.

The senator spoke on several topics including health care, Wall Street, the criminal justice system, and more.

Sen. Bernie Sanders will return to Nevada on Friday, Sept. 13 to host a town hall in Carson City, followed by a rally at the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

Heading into the weekend, there’s plenty of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.

Heading into Thursday, August 29, 2019 and we're ready and due for the upcoming three-day holiday weekend ahead. Looking around the Carson City area for Thursday there's art showings, a Muscle Powered hike, a Partnership Carson City training and lunch and then a vigil to recognize and prevent opioid overdose and more.

The public is invited to a candlelight vigil Thursday at Bob McFadden Plaza in honor of International Overdose Awareness Day.

“The opioid epidemic is so huge, even in a town of our size,” said Samantha Szoyka, the youth program and outreach coordinator for Partnership Carson City. “As a community, we are starting to talk about it, but people still don’t know what resources are available to them or how they can connect with those resources.”

The vigil, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature a guest speaker and booths distributing information.

Having made it through the first day of school in Carson City, it is onward and upward as we head into Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Events around the area include fitness hikes and bike ride, a free floral design class at Silver City School House, art showings and Congressman Mark Amodei at Casino Fandango. Also featured is the launch of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the community center, a jazz quintet performance at Comma Courtyard and the 115th birthday celebration of Count Basie as part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival. Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program and the RSVP Veterans Advisory Council Presents the Carson City Veterans Resource Fair Sep., 7th, 10am - 1pm, at the Carson City Nugget.

Veterans and their caregivers will be provided with information on valuable services and programs provided by area nonprofits, advisory groups, government agencies and the private sector.

Heading into the midweek, Wednesday, August 14, 2019 activities abound around the capital city. There's a new group for writers that meets at the Brewery Arts Center; a salary negotiation workshop at WNC, a chautauqua and author presentations at Dangberg Historic Park. There's also the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival that will feature the Wesley Orsolic Trio during Wheeled Food Wednesday at the BAC, with jams to continue at Living the Good Life; there's also a real estate workshop for veterans, art showings, salsa dancing and more. As we head into the final stretch of the week, events around the Carson City region are lined up for the next three days, including museum activities, outdoor concerts, a car cruise Friday at Carson Mall, athletic events, a Carson High School class of 1979 reunion, the Taste of Downtown on Saturday and much more.

Attention family historians and genealogists: The Nevada State Archives is holding a “Preserving Family History” workshop on July 31, 2019 from 9 a.m. to noon. This will be a basic family photo and document preservation workshop that will include a few hands-on activities.

The public is invited to join us for the official campaign Kickoff for Aaron Sims who will be declaring his candidacy for Mayor of Carson City.

This event will be a barbecue and a speaking engagement. We will have good food and music. It is Saturday, July 20.

The event will be held at the Firefighters Memorial on the East side of Mills Park. Entrance is just off of Saliman Rd across from the high school. We are asking for an RSVP which you can do by following the link to the facebook event at the bottom.

Doors open at 11:30AM and the event will start at noon.

The Carson City Raiders Booster Club, a family-based group together for 26 seasons and sanctioned by the Oakland Raiders, invites all fans to our annual membership picnic on Saturday, July 13 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Dayton State Park (825 US Hwy 50 East, Dayton, NV). Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

Celebrate Independence Day 2019 with fireworks, a carnival, live music and more at Mills Park in Carson City during the annual RSVP July 4 Celebration and Carnival, Thursday through Sunday at Mills Park.

Heading into Monday, the first day of July 2019 we leave an action-packed weekend behind us with a long Independence Day holiday week ahead. The activities continue, albeit at a slower place for the first day of the work week. There's art showings and activities for adults and kids, a My Place Hotels job fair, a talk featuring the program director at Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a swing dance class and more. Enjoy the day!

Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) is hosting a casual al fresco Yappy Hour on Tuesday, July 9, from 4-6 PM at Genoa’s Sierra Chef. The popular catering company and cooking school will be providing delicious complimentary nibbles and wine and beer will be available for purchase in keepsake WARF glasses. Canine companions are invited to attend. WARF is raising awareness about its new Animal Sanctuary under construction in Stagecoach. Yappy Hour is open to the public and admission is free.
