Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive This Saturday

Don't forget to leave your donation of non-perishable food items at your mailbox this Saturday. Your mail carrier will pick it up and deliver it to local food pantries. Help us Stamp Out Hunger.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the largest one day food drive in the nation. Letter carriers have collected over one billion pounds of food since the first food drive in 1998.

Representatives from Save Mart Stores in Carson City delivered checks Wednesday morning to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center (RWFRC), the proceeds of which had been collected from the company's GIVE.SHARE.CARE food-sharing program.

Senator Square: Carson High senior projects are more than a graduation requirement

Raynna Jackson began helping with Toys for Tots at the Ron Wood center before Thanksgiving in order to fulfill her CHS Senior Project graduation requirement; she decided to help give underprivileged children a Merry Christmas.

She started by putting boxes at CHS and her mother’s place of employment, Natel Company. Toys for Tots serves more than 2,000 Carson City area kids every Christmas, and Raynna took this personally; she wanted to help bring in even more gifts. Raynna ultimately facilitated the gathering of 2 large boxes of toys.

If you would like to participate please drop off new, unwrapped toys through December 21st. We are located at 425 East Long Street (corner of Roop and Long). We are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Save Mart Supermarkets in Carson City will match in-store donations Friday to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

For the past month, Carson City shoppers have been able to donate to Ron Wood at checkout through Save Mart Companies' "Give.Share.CARE! Holiday Drive," said company spokeswoman Nanette Miranda.

Senator Square: Inaugural 'Week of Respect' a success at Carson High School

Carson High School celebrated its first Week of Respect Oct. 3-7. Students and staff participated in daily activities promoting positive interactions to support a safe and respectful learning environment. Highlights of the week included interactive game stations where students gathered in Senator Square and engaged in board games and brain teasers.
