With spring and summer around the corner, job opportunities have begun to sprout up around Carson City and Northern Nevada. Job seekers and students are encouraged to take advantage of a spring job fair planned for Friday, March 17 at the Carson City Community Center.

Representatives from Save Mart Stores in Carson City delivered checks Wednesday morning to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center (RWFRC), the proceeds of which had been collected from the company's GIVE.SHARE.CARE food-sharing program.

Raynna Jackson began helping with Toys for Tots at the Ron Wood center before Thanksgiving in order to fulfill her CHS Senior Project graduation requirement; she decided to help give underprivileged children a Merry Christmas.

She started by putting boxes at CHS and her mother’s place of employment, Natel Company. Toys for Tots serves more than 2,000 Carson City area kids every Christmas, and Raynna took this personally; she wanted to help bring in even more gifts. Raynna ultimately facilitated the gathering of 2 large boxes of toys.

Just five days before Christmas, the state of Nevada has ensured something under the tree for hundreds of local children in the Carson City area this year.

Less than a week to go until Christmas, Capitol Cab in Carson City finished collecting toys for its annual Toys For Tots campaign, which began on Black Friday this year and ended this morning, said campaign organizer and taxicab driver Mark Shepler.

Saturday couldn’t have been a better day to be a kid. From Legos to locomotives, from cookies to crafts, and ice skates to canines, area children had plenty of fun activities to choose from in Carson City.

Farmers Insurance District office is a drop off location for Toys for Tots. The toys are donated to Ron Wood Family Resource Center. If you would like to participate please drop off new, unwrapped toys through December 21st. We are located at 425 East Long Street (corner of Roop and Long). We are open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Carson City Florist will be hosting a non perishable food drive at the flower shop located at 1954 E William St, from Monday Dec. 12 thru Friday Dec. 30. Cookies with Santa takes place Saturday, Dec. 17, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Cafe at Adele’s, in what has become one of Carson City’s defining holiday events. All money and gifts collected goes to Ron Wood Family Resource Center for Toys for Tots.

Save Mart Supermarkets in Carson City will match in-store donations Friday to the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

For the past month, Carson City shoppers have been able to donate to Ron Wood at checkout through Save Mart Companies' "Give.Share.CARE! Holiday Drive," said company spokeswoman Nanette Miranda.

A long line of shoppers waited outside the new FoodMaxx grocery store at 3325 Highway 50 East in Carson City Wednesday morning, hoping to qualify for one of 200 free bags filled with groceries to kick off the grand opening celebration of the supermarket chain's 54th store.

Michael Hohl Motor Company in Carson City is once again helping out Toys for Tots and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center Holiday Food Drive. Drop off your unwrapped toy and food donation by Saturday, Dec. 17 to be eligible to win one of three Walmart gift cards totaling $500.

Carson City Parks and Recreation Youth Programs is hosting a donation drive for Toys for Tots. We have partnered with Division of Children and Family Services here in Carson City to donate toys for the Toys for Tots program. As the holiday season approaches, give a hand to the Friends of the Carson City Library. Their fall food drive has begun and you will earn a free book when you drop off donations at Browsers Corner Book Store. It’s the Bills versus the Seahawks in tonight’s football match-up; grab some friends and cheer on your favorite. The Firkin and Fox is the place to go for karaoke for anyone looking to belt out a few tunes.

October is behind us and this November weekend kicks off the holiday season with craft fairs, art shows, and plenty of fun. Get a jump on those New Year’s resolutions by participating in the first of the ‘Be Bold, Run in the Cold’ 5 or 10K runs that Ascent Runs is sponsoring. Carson High School celebrated its first Week of Respect Oct. 3-7. Students and staff participated in daily activities promoting positive interactions to support a safe and respectful learning environment. Highlights of the week included interactive game stations where students gathered in Senator Square and engaged in board games and brain teasers.
