Toys For Tots celebrates successful 2015 campaign
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Fri, 12/18/2015 - 2:38pmSemper fidelis is more than just the motto of the United States Marine Corps (USMC). It is a phrase to live by. Every year since 1948, the USMC has faithfully delivered Christmas joy to millions of needy children around the country.
That faithfulness will stand to benefit around 3,000 children this year in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.
Carson City Parks and Recreation Kids Klub Lends a Hand

This past week, children from the Carson City Parks and Recreation joined the Ron Wood Family Resource Center in their yearly non-perishable food drive. Beginning on Monday, Dec. 7, participants in the Kids Klub after school programs begin bringing in their much needed donations in hopes of helping others have a happier holiday season.

Toys for Tots Kicks Off Season of Giving

The Marines of the Bridgeport Warfare Training Facility will be on hand once again this year to assist with donations.
Senator Square: Rivalry between Carson and Douglas spreads to school staffs
Submitted by editor on Sat, 11/07/2015 - 11:11pmThe staff of Carson High School and Douglas High School have agreed to a rivalry basketball game to be played Nov. 19 at DHS. The staff basketball game is a fundraiser for the Peace Officer’s Memorial Fund.
Multiple members of each of the school’s staff will be on hand to battle it out on the basketball court and continue the rivalry, but for a good cause. Come support the Senators or the Tigers and be sure to wear your favorite school’s colors.
Carson City area hunger drive: Can-Struction Challenge yields more than thousand pounds of food

Among Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Geological Survey and USDA Rural Development, 1,042 pounds of food was collected for Carson City area nonprofits Ron Wood Family Resource Center and Friends in Service Helping as part of the Can-Struction Challenge.

Carson City farmer's market brings in more than 400 pounds of food for local pantry

Donations will be accepted again Saturday to benefit the pantry at Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH.

Browsers Corner Book Store helps hungry neighbors with Christmas in July

The food drive began Monday, July 13 and ends today, Saturday, July 25.
Community members can bring a donation of canned or packaged food to the Browsers Book Store at 711 East Washington Street. Browsers is accepting food until 6 p.m. With every donation, you can receive a free Christmas book of your choice and a coupon for $1 off of a purchase in the book store.

Nevada Title and Payday Loans food drive to benefit Ron Wood Family Resource Center

Cooperative Extension: Green Giving the Greenhouse Project way

I have been fortunate to realize that goal through my involvement with The Greenhouse Project. However, awakening the passion for growing and working with plants in youth is only one wonderful aspect of this project. I also get to work with caring dedicated people, help beautify downtown Carson City and, best of all, help feed those in need.
Carson City turns out for food collection at Governor's Mansion

Food for Thought, Friends in Service Helping (also known as FISH) and Ron Wood Family Resource Center gathered for the event hosted by Channel 2 News in Reno. Also cab drivers donated through a program they established called Toys for Tips.
In all around 5,156 pounds of food was collected.

Carson City Save Mart stores to match customer donations Friday to fight local hunger

Share. Care" program, for a total dollar-for-dollar matching grant of up to $5,000 for the day.
This initiative could not come at a more critical time for local food banks. Already stretched heading into the holiday season, recent cuts to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps) significantly dented the food budgets of thousands of local, low-income households.

Children of all ages are invited to enjoy complimentary hot cider, hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, visit with and have their picture taken with Santa, while helping provide Christmas for children in need.

'Feds Feed Families' food drive at Carson City Third and Curry Street Farmers Market
Submitted by editor on Thu, 08/07/2014 - 9:31am“Feds Feed Families” a food drive to benefit the hungry in Carson City, will be accepting donations and cleaned produce at the Aug. 9 and again Aug. 16 at the Third and Curry Street Farmer’s Market in Carson City.
Donations will benefit the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, a local food pantry that provides emergency rations for about 425 families each week.
Pam Winebarger, the food bank and volunteer coordinator, said the need in the community is great.
“We are seeing many more families in need, and seniors too, which is sad,” she said.
