Federal investigators at the site of fatal Cessna crash east of Carson City

This story has been updated and the name of the pilot, Joseph James Miceli, 59, of Wellington, Nev. has been released. Go here for the latest version.

Representatives from the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board were at the site this morning of an airplane crash discovered Sunday in which one person has died. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said a press conference will be held sometime today and provided a photo of the downed Cessna aircraft.

The body was removed from the aircraft at around 12:30 Monday afternoon.

Body discovered in downed airplane southeast of Carson City

UPDATE: One body was found inside a downed airplane Sunday southeast of Carson City near Mexican Dam in the Pinion Hills. Search and rescue crews found the body inside the aircraft at around 5 p.m., said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen.

Search and rescue crews were dispatched this afternoon after an airplane pilot contacted dispatch to report seeing an aircraft past the power lines in the Sierra Vista Lane area. A RAVEN helicopter was dispatched to aid in the search but was canceled after the Search and Rescue crews made it to the airplane and discovered the body.

Mike Beck returns to Café at Adele’s at 6 p.m., Friday, March 14, in a benefit performance for The Joyful Horse Project, and in support of wild horse rescue efforts in Northern Nevada.

Artsy Fartsy Gallery of Carson City will have an array of Western art by local artists available. The hat will be passed and donations, which will be matched by Café at Adele’s, as well as a portion of art sales will go toward supporting wild horse rescue efforts in Northern Nevada.

Carson City firefighters, Care Flight respond to victim of ATV rollover in Ash Canyon

A Care Flight helicopter was called early Sunday night to transport a man involved in an ATV rollover in the Ash Canyon area west of Carson City.

Rescue crews and a ranger used ATVs to get to the victim, initially reported to be two-thirds of the way up into the foothill canyon area that is known for its rocky, rough trail terrain.

Lyon County gang unit, Carson City SET team arrest four, recover 60 stolen weapons

UPDATE: Carson City and Lyon County authorities arrested four people Friday on felony and misdemeanor charges related to stolen weapons, a vehicle and narcotics.

The Lyon County Gang Unit and Carson City SET Team had information in regards to a parole violator in the Lyon County area, who was in possession of stolen weapons. Both teams worked together to locate and apprehend the suspect, said Lt. Shawn Clanton.

Carson Canine Adventures Open House set for Feb. 16

Carson Canine Adventures (CCA) will be holding our annual Open House this coming Sunday, Feb. 16, from Noon until 4pm. We have added a new photographer that will be here to takes pictures.

Two rescued birds in need of adopted homes

Hyacinth Preservation Society, Inc. a Carson City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and re-homing of rescued birds currently has two that need homes.

We have a 19 year old female, military macaw Micha, and a 30 year old sulfur crested cockatoo, Belle, available.

Nevada Seismological Lab reports swarm of earthquakes near Virginia City and Reno

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada, Reno’s Seismological Laboratory reports an ongoing swarm of earthquakes near Virginia City, Nev. since Tuesday, Jan. 21. To date, over 100 events have been located. Four have been larger than magnitude 3.0, in the past two days.

There have been no reports of damage. The larger events have been felt in Virginia City about 8 miles to the southwest and in Reno about 10 miles west of the swarm.

Woman injured in single-car accident on the Carson City freeway

Carson City fire and rescue responded this afternoon to a single-vehicle accident on the freeway in the northbound lane south of William Street.

The accident was reported at 12:47 p.m. The driver of the car was reported to have an injury to her arm and a laceration to her head.

Woman injured in single-vehicle rollover accident near Carson City freeway ramp

A 22-year-old woman was injured in a single-vehicle rollover accident that happened at around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday at the northbound onramp of the I-580 freeway and Lakeview Road.

Four people suffered non-life threatening injuries in a three-car accident early tonight in 2600 block of South Edmonds in Carson City.

Care Flight called after pedestrian struck by vehicle near Koontz and Edmonds

Care Flight was called to an accident Sunday night involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Koontz and Edmonds in Carson City.

Truck and moped collide on Roop and Hot Springs Road, Care Flight called

Carson City ambulance and rescue crews responded this afternoon to a collision involving a truck and a moped. The moped rider was said to have injuries to his leg and abdomen and a Care Flight air ambulance was called to respond.

Pilot unhurt after Cessna airplane flips during landing at Carson City Airport

UPDATE: The aircraft that landed and flipped early Sunday afternoon at the Carson City Airport was a single-engine Cessna 185. The pilot was not injured, said Carson City Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Bero.

"There were no flames, no fuel leaks and all the safety systems did their job," said Bero. The incident was report to Carson City dispatch at around 12:05 p.m.

Dog Town Rescue Receives Abandoned Puppies

Last Sunday Dog Town rescued five young puppies found abandoned in Wilson Canyon. The puppies were picked up by a resident of the Walker River - Schurz Reservation, who then contacted Dog Town to take the puppies.

The puppies are in relatively good health, although it is unknown when they were abandoned. The mixed-breed puppies will be available for adoption after they are fully vaccinated and wormed. There is also a post-adoption spay/neuter contract and refundable deposit required, since they will still be too young to fix when they become available.

Bicyclist injured at Kings Canyon and Ormsby; one hurt in water heater explosion

Carson City fire and rescue and sheriff's deputies responded Saturday night to a bicyclist reported to be seriously injured in the area of Kings Canyon and Ormsby.

The call came into dispatch at 7:35 p.m as a bicycle crash. A Care Flight medical helicopter has been dispatched. The victim is described as a man in his 30s.

An ambulance will transport the injured cyclist to the Carson City Airport where he will be taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
