Carson City Fire Department promotes Bob Schreihans to EMS chief position
The Carson City Fire Department has filled an upcoming vacancy by promoting from within. Captain Bob Schreihans has been named the Department’s Chief of Emergency Medical Services and Training.
Battalion Chief Schreihans replaces retiring Battalion Chief Eric Bero.
Bob Schreihans is a 29-year veteran of the Carson City Fire Department, promoting through the ranks from Firefighter to Captain before his new appointment to Battalion Chief. Schreihans started with the City in November of 1984 and has worked on several specialty teams, including hazardous materials, technical rescue, and extrication. Most recently, he was the engine company Captain at Station 52 (College Parkway) on A shift.
Schreihans has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Nevada Reno and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Labor Management Program. He currently serves in the elected position of President of the Board for the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District.
Fire Chief Stacey Giomi said that Schreihans epitomized the kind of business savvy individual that will be extremely successful in this Battalion Chief position.
“Over the course of his 29 years, he has continued to be fully engaged at all levels, both locally and at the state and national level,” Giomi said. “Perhaps his greatest gift is his ability to really understand the business side of our industry – this will be critical as we deal with changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act.”
Chief Schreihans will start his new position on January 2, 2014.
