A Referendum to Define the Republican Party
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 12/16/2015 - 9:46amLast year, Nevadans voted almost 4-to-1 against taxing businesses based on their gross receipts. Amidst an anemic economic recovery, most Nevadans understood that taxing them on their top line, with no regard for their costs or profitability, was a terrible idea.
But then the 2015 legislature, at Gov. Sandoval's last-minute behest and without reasonable opportunity for anyone to examine what he proposed, passed such a tax anyway.

Optimists and Many Nevadans Continue Tax Fight with Cynical State Politicians
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 10/28/2015 - 9:13amIf we share a weakness, it’s our perpetual optimism.
As free-market economists, we often reflect on the amazing achievements of the past 300 years, and doing so, grow sanguine about what people can accomplish when free to create, innovate, produce and exchange with each other mostly free of government interference.

Submitted by admin on Fri, 07/31/2015 - 11:11amIn 2004, after what was then the largest tax increase in Nevada history, some Mensa-like GOP strategists thought an anti-tax "Contract with Nevada" would help the Republicans take over the Assembly, then in Democratic control by 23-19.

Ron Knecht and Geoffrey Lawrence: Why We Support Scott Walker for President
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 07/15/2015 - 7:50amWith 15 major Republicans already declared – the best presidential field since Ronald Reagan ran for re-election – GOP voters should be able to tap a very strong candidate to lead their party next year. Which one would best unify and represent them?
Good cases certainly can be made for (in alphabetic order) Dr. Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Bobby Jindal, Rand Paul, Rick Perry and Marco Rubio. But we think Scott Walker offers the best package of strong executive experience, personal qualifications and reliable, across-the-board limited-government reform politics.

Trump’s Wrong; We Need Many More Legal Immigrants
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 07/08/2015 - 9:09am“They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” Those were Donald Trump’s words about Mexican immigrants in announcing he’s running for President.
We take strong exception to all that. And, having labored long in the political fields with other dedicated limited-government conservatives and Republicans, we know those are not the views of most of our folks.
America has not always welcomed legal immigrants with open arms, but we should -- now more than ever. Overall, they are a blessing to us just as America is a blessing to them.
Referendum to Repeal Commerce Tax and Recall Senator(s)
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 06/25/2015 - 9:35amThe citizens of this great country started a Revolution in 1773 by throwing tea into the Boston Harbor to protest “Taxation without Representation”. A new Revolution has begun in the state of Nevada for the same reason.
On November 4, 2014, nearly 80% of Nevada’s voters said NO to Question 3, The Education Initiative, which was a margins tax based on a business’s gross receipts. Just 72 days later, during his State of the State address on January 15, 2015, Governor Brian Sandoval proposed a $7.3 Billion budget to be funded with roughly $1 Billion in new taxes.
