Lyon County Republican Central Committee announces that the regularly scheduled County Convention has been postponed and the monthly meetings of the Lyon County Central Committee have been cancelled until further notice following the recommendations of the state of emergency declared by President Trump, Governor Sisolak of Nevada and the Lyon County Board of Commissioners.

PK O’Neill filed late Friday afternoon with the Secretary of State’s Office as a Republican candidate for State Assembly District 40. The District includes all of Carson City, the east side of Washoe Valley and parts of southeast Washoe County.

It's Friday everyone, and while it means the end of the work week for many of you, it is also the end of the filing period for our electable local offices! As of Friday at 5 p.m., 14 candidates have filed to run for the offices of School District Trustee, Mayor, and Board of Supervisors.

In Carson City, there are currently 33,851 registered voters, with about 14,000 registered Republican, about 10,000 registered Democrat, and 9,000 registered non-partisan.

All upcoming election seats are non-partisan.

Several candidates, from the Democratic, Republican and Independent parties are vying for the seat of Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, currently held by Mark Amodei who is running again to be re-elected. The 2nd Congressional District covers the northern portion of Nevada, including Carson City, and the counties of: Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humbolt, Lander, some of Lyon County, Pershing, Storey, and Washoe.

There are four days left for Carson City hopefuls to file their candidacy in the upcoming elections, including today, Tuesday. Filing will close on Friday.

The Carson City Republican Women's Club will hear former U.S. Senator from Nevada Dean Heller at its upcoming luncheon, Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Casino Fandango in Carson City. Senator Heller will address the current political atmosphere. Social time is 11 a.m. and the meeting will be called to order at 11:30 a.m.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk takes place Saturday followed by a performance from Tom Petty and Rod Stewart tribute bands during The Do Drop In’s “A Face in the Crowd” homeless fundraiser at Fuji Park. St. Teresa School will host its 17th annual Crab Feed Fundraiser. Combined with comedy at the Carson Nugget and Brewery Arts Center, the Carson City region is in store for a busy weekend. Carson City candidacy filing is underway and two additional candidates have thrown their hat into the ring for Board of Supervisors.

The two additional candidates are Lorne Houle for Ward 2, and Mike Smith for Ward 4, bring the total up to three for Board of Supervisors and eight total candidates in the elections.

Carson City Attorney Day Williams has announced that he will run for Assembly District 40, which includes Carson City and a portion of southeast Washoe County. He supports constitutional rights, measures to improve the economy and create jobs, and education that meets today’s needs.

Candidates for Carson City area offices have begun to file their bids for the upcoming election as of Monday.

Lyon County Republican Central Committee will meet on Saturday, March 7 in Dayton at the Lyon County Utilities Building located at 34 Lakes Blvd., Dayton.

The meeting commences at 10 a.m. This is a great opportunity to meet Republicans and local and state officials. Updates on the precinct meetings held earlier in February and information on the upcoming Lyon County Convention and Nevada state convention will be discussed. Bob Cashell, the former longtime mayor of Reno and Nevada lieutenant governor known for his big personality, died on Tuesday. He was 81.

Jim Bauserman, a family friend, confirmed the news to The Nevada Independent. Community leaders, including current Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, offered tributes on Tuesday.

The guest speaker is GOP Assemblywoman Dr. Robin Titus who will address the issues facing rural and urban Nevada as the remaining new laws that were passed in the last session go into effect.
