WNC Baseball: South Mountain holds off Wildcats in Phoenix

A day after battering the South Mountain pitching staff for 18 hits and 15 runs, Western Nevada College struggled to put the ball in play on a chilly day in Phoenix.

Justin Wick no-hit the Wildcats into the fifth inning and WNC hitters fanned 11 times as the Cougars held on to win the nonconference baseball game 5-3 on Monday.

The Wildcats of Carson City employed a patient approach at the plate against Wick, drawing five walks through four innings. But without a hit, the Wildcats couldn't exploit the free passes.

The Carson High varsity boys basketball team held off a late rally by Bishop Manogue to win, 62-53, posting its tenth win of the season and remaining unbeaten in the Sierra League.

Carson trailed by one point at the end of the opening quarter. But the Senators rallied in the second period, outscoring the Miners 21-12 to take an eight-point halftime lead.

Manogue came out shooting well in the third quarter, cutting Carson’s lead to four, 34-30, before the Senators responded by widening their lead to 11 points toward the end of the period.

Carson City is one of 40 cities around the Nation bidding for a $25,000 award for a free summer music series. We are currently in 17th place and the Levitt Amp music series will be giving away 15 awards of $25,000 each.

The top 25 cities with the most votes will be eligible for the grant but the higher up you are on the list, the better chance you have for the cash award. The award is a matching grant with a total budget of $50,000.

The concerts will be regional artists and national touring bands along with a festival style local artist event, all free of charge and will take place on the Brewery Arts Center campus.

Carson City via the Brewery Arts Center is now in the running to bring a 10-week live music series to Carson City during the Summer of 2016.

The money was raised through the generosity of Downtown Coin customers, and matched by the Downtown Carson City Coin Club, said Downtown Coin owner Dan Wilson.
