Mac the Naw: From Tahoe to Topaz, April fishing looks promising

Hello fellow anglers, last weekend Renee and I took an adventure through Alpine County. We started at Red Lake and ventured back through Hope Valley. We then took a turn up to Monitor Pass along the east Carson River.

Mac the Naw: March brings added daylight, which means more 'fish on' time behind the reel

Hello fellow anglers. It was nice to get a glimpse of spring for a few days. Speaking of spring, next week, Sunday, March 12, is the time we turn our clocks forward one hour for daylight saving time. That, my fellow anglers, will give us that little extra time on the lake. For those anglers that utilize the Douglas County Park at Topaz Lake, here is a little information that may save you some money.

Mac the Naw: February fishing lands good sized trout at Tahoe, Topaz Lake

Hello fellow anglers. Be careful what you wish for. We have all been praying for rain, and we got it all at one time. Many areas in our local area are either not fishable or are not accessible.

Mac the Naw: Winter fishing bodes well in Sierra, Indian Creek and Topaz Lake

Hello fellow anglers, the weather may be questionable but many anglers are getting out and doing well. You just need to dress a little warmer for the occasion.

Mac the Naw Sierra fishing report for week of Jan. 14, 2017

Hello fellow anglers, nice fishing weather we are having. I wish I had more to report, but with our recent rain and snowfall not many anglers including myself have been out treading the waters: Except in our own back yards.
Myself, I always want to have a river near my property. Now I have one going right through it. Water is a powerful force of Mother Nature.

Mac the Naw reels in 2017 with 4 pound trout and a boat during Topaz Lake opener

We had a successful day at the New Year's Day Topaz Lake opener. I fished with my friend Tom Blotter from Minden. We caught 19 fish with a few over the two pound range. We also caught something unexpected. A boat!

Mac the Naw: New Year's 2017 brings Topaz derby and ice fishing on Sierra lakes

Hello fellow anglers, I hope you have a safe and Happy New Year. I will be bringing in the Naw year at Topaz Lake with 500 other freezing souls. The water level is up 12 feet from this time last year, both of the boat launches will be open. The Topaz Landing Marina will be open with rental boats this year.

Mac the Naw Sierra fishing report: Mountain lakes freeze but not enough for safe ice fishing

Hello fellow anglers, Wishing you a warm and a happy holiday fishing season. Although many areas in our local area have closed for the season, we still have plenty of options to keep on fishing. The lakes in the higher altitudes have started to freeze and ice fishing will be upon us soon. I ask anglers to resist the urge to venture out on lakes and ponds until we have at least eight inches of solid ice.

Mac-the-Naw fishing report for Lake Tahoe and Sierra: California fishing season ends Tuesday

Hello fellow anglers, We only have a few days left to fish many of our local waters. On Tuesday, Nov. 15 the California fishing season will come to an end for the majority of the rivers and streams, as well as the lakes in Inyo and Mono counties.

Mac the Naw's Sierra and Tahoe fishing report: Father's Day in the forecast for area lakes

Hello fellow anglers. We have had two successful kids fishing derbys in our area. The Lampe Park Kids Derby had 1,300 children attend this year and last Saturday was the Alpine County Kids Fishing derby at Indian Creek.

My hat is off to all the volunteers that came together to make this such a successful and fun event. Now it is time for the kids to take dad fishing. Father's Day is this Sunday and what better way to give back than to take your dad fishing. These events are the reason that most kids get hooked on fishing.
