This is a reminder that the big Labor Day Weekend, Friday Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 7, is around the corner and for many folks in this general area, it will be their last big outdoor adventure of 2015.

Hello fellow anglers, I have heard over and over how bad the fishing is because of low waters in our area. There are plenty of places to fish in our local area that are very fishable. Renee and I fished up on Wolf Creek, Silver Creek and the East Carson last weekend. Some were good others were slow, we adjusted for every place we fished and had a successful fun day.

Hello fellow anglers, there are only two things that make me extremely angry, and I experienced both of them this last week. While fishing last week, I met an angler with a limit of nice rainbow trout.

Later one that same morning I saw him fishing again in the same spot catching more fish. He had taken his first catch home and returned the same day to catch more fish.

Hello fellow anglers, I would like to say to all the firefighters on the Washington fire, Thank you for saving Markleeville and the outlying community of Alpine County.

On Sunday I took a drive up to the Wolf Creek area. The fire hit and missed all along the east fork of the Carson River. Most of the river area was untouched by the fire, although there were a few areas that had burned down to the river's edge.

Did everyone catch the giant double rainbow last night? Our wacky weather does make for some amazing skies. Sunsets of orange, purple, red, and fuchsia are commonplace if we happen to look up at the right time. Today will be another partly cloudy day, so keep your camera handy if you want to capture some great skies yourself. It’s ‘Social Media’ Day, so you might as well share those photos on your timeline or run them through an Instagram filter. Hello fellow anglers, I have to tell you that last weekend's Lampe Park Kids derby was rewarding. The fishing was slow both days, but there were a few nice fish caught. At one time I felt as if I were at a ball game. I could hear the crowd  cheering  at one end of Willow Creek with the voices in unison rising and lowering as a 4-year-old angler was reeling in a 7 pound trout.

Here’s a reminder of something special that occurs today in the Outdoor world: Today, Saturday, June 13 is Nevada’s Free Fishing Day for the year 2015. On this day, you can fish anywhere you want, and you will not need to have a Nevada fishing license or a Nevada Trout Stamp.

Today is also Nevada State Parks Day. Today folks can enjoy free admission to all 23 Nevada state parks.
