Governor honors Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence advocate for 30 years of service

Sue Meuschke, executive director for the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV), was honored today with a proclamation from the office of the governor for her 30 years of service as “a dedicated and talented community leader, collaborator and advocate for survivors” for the State of Nevada, advocating for victims of domestic and sexual violence and increasing awareness of the issues.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is looking to expand its Volunteers in Partnership program and is looking for citizens to assist and participate. Also known as VIPS, the sheriff's office is looking for persons to assist in citizen patrol, administrative support, front counter reception and the jail visitation program.

Carson City arrests: Three jailed for felony burglary after incident at Kohl's

A 45-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday, 3:19 p.m. at Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street for suspicion of possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, a gross misdemeanor and petit larceny, a sheriff's deputy said.

The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is partnering with Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to sponsor a "Prescription Drug Round Up" at Smith’s Grocery in Dayton on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The conveniently located Round Up helps people bring unwanted, unneeded, or expired prescription drugs for safe disposal.

Collecting expired and unused medications can prevent damage to the water supply that would otherwise result from flushing them down toilets and drains.

Central Lyon County Fire District lifts burning restrictions

DAYTON — The Central Lyon Fire Protection District has lifted burning restrictions effective Monday, Oct. 15. Open burning is permitted with a burn permit. Burn permits can be obtained at the District Office, located at 246 Dayton Valley Rd, Ste. 106 in Dayton. Permits are also available online at CentralLyonFire.org.

Firefighters representing agencies throughout the Silver State paid their respects to the fallen at the Nevada Firefighters Memorial in Carson City's Mills Park Saturday morning, adding two more names to plaques adorning the walls of the memorial.

Carson City woman arrested for felony burglary after shoplifting a Giants shirt

A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 3800 block of S. Carson Street Wednesday evening on a felony burglary charge.

Angela Bowman was arrested after deputies responded to a call regarding a petit larceny charge at a Carson City retail store.

The loss prevention team of the store had Bowman detained in the security office when deputies arrived.

Bowman has at least two prior convictions for petit larceny, according to the police report.
