Green dining district organizer to speak at Carson City Democratic luncheon

The district's purpose is to help restaurants reduce all waste streams, with a strong focus on food waste. Accompanying her will be Angela Bullentini Wolf of Gather, who will describe that restaurant's experience implementing green practices.

Carson City rifle range to get user fees, wildfire prevention

Last year, shooters at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range touched off a 200 acre fire and already this year there have been two small fires there.

This is an event like no other, where agencies who work in areas of public health and safety gather at Mills Park to meet with Carson City residents. This event features 3 hours of information booths, games, demonstrations, food and fun. Also happening Tuesday is a free robotics mini-camp for kids in nearby Silver City, Reciprocity Inc. will host a fundraiser at Rustically Divine, there's the Culinary Traveler’s Club's Polynesian Paradise featured at Bleu Café; the Carson City Classic Cinema Club will feature a Sci-Fi favorite at the BAC, plus fitness outings and more. That’s why, in conjunction with the CDC and the National Diabetes Prevention Program, starting July 24, 2019, a session of “Small Steps. Big Rewards.” will begin. A year-long program that has proven to be effective in eliminating the risk of diabetes.

Andy began his practice in Carson Valley in 1983, later moving to Carson City. Devoted to his family and his patients, he was an accomplished drummer, loved jazz and cycling. Andy lost his life in 2015.

Carson City Community Support Services Grant awards $380K in program funding

Carson City Sheriff's Office looks to recruit for its Volunteers in Partnership program

Also known as VIPS, the sheriff's office is looking for volunteers to assist in citizen patrol, administrative support, front counter reception, and the jail visitation program.
The Sheriff's Office is also looking for a volunteer ordained minister with a confirmation letter from a parish to assist in chaplain duties.

There are decisions about where to send their assets, and whose assets to send. There are decisions about when, where and what to defend with a limited number of fire crews. And there are decisions about jurisdictional responsibility.
Could the Camp Fire happen here? Carson City Fire Chief talks fire prevention
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 06/07/2019 - 11:19amFire season is upon us, and while the high temperatures may have come a little late this year, the wet winter and cool temperatures also created a perfect growing situation for fast acting fuels such as cheat grass.
Last year, our community watched with sadness and horror at the Camp Fire and Butte Fire that destroyed our western neighbor communities in California. Those fires, it has now been revealed, were caused by PG&E power lines combined with quick acting, dry fuels.
The question we've wondered is "can this tragedy happen here?" Especially after last fire season, with a number of local fires being related in some way to NV Energy power lines.
