Registration is open for a free, online series of classes on Diabetes Self Management that begins on Thursday, May 28, 2020.

What: This 6 week self-management series of workshops was developed at Stanford University and offers anyone living with diabetes — or anyone living with or caring for someone with diabetes — the tools and skills to successfully manage their condition.

The Quad-County Multiagency Coordination Group, Incident Management Team and Carson City Health and Human Services will be conducting asymptomatic community based COVID-19 testing for people without symptoms in each of our counties. Testing is limited and will be by appointment only.

The Assembly Republican Caucus addressed its plan Monday to reopen Nevada, proposing a framework, establishing a regional plan and a bi-partisan task force to advise on a strategy. It calls for Nevada to join the California, Oregon and Washington Western States Pact; establish a regional plan to modify Nevada’s stay at home orders and the caucus wants to immediately establish a curbside model that will allow non-essential retail businesses to open.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — In alignment with current federal, state and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure health and safety of its employees, visitors and volunteers, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has temporarily closed national forest recreation sites and areas in the South Shore Recreation Corridor. The closures were effective as of Monday, April 13, 2020.

The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is implementing fire restrictions earlier than usual this year to reduce the number of human-caused fires and reduce firefighter exposure to COVID-19 during the current pandemic.

Hello fellow anglers. As many of you know, there is an important date coming up. April 25 was to be the opening trout season opener for many Sierra lakes, rivers and streams. This year because of the outbreak of Covid-19, the California Fish and Game Commission has proposed a new regulation that may temporarily suspend or delay the opener to protect public health.

RENO, Nev. — The COVID-19 pandemic has caused much uncertainty and change at all levels of education. Medical education is no exception. While the COVID-19 outbreak has complicated the learning process, University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) students are taking what they’ve learned in the lecture halls and during clinical rotations to mobilize in response to the COVID-19 crisis, bolstering the health care workforce in northern Nevada.

The Carson City area Quad-County Emergency Operations Center is reporting Monday evening, April 6, that there is 1 new positive case and six additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the region. This brings the total number of cases to 22, with 8 recoveries, 14 cases remain active.

An update was given to the Carson City Board of Supervisors regarding emergency operations being provided by Carson City Health and Human Services as well as the quad county Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

During the discussions, Tom Raw, Deputy Emergency Manager for the EOC, said they do not want to publicly disclose the amount of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) the city has. Carson City Health and Human Services Director Nicki Aaker also said they have stopped putting in orders for PPE since orders were not fulfilled in the past.

Carson City Health and Human Services on Tuesday morning is reporting one new positive case of COVID-19 in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. This brings the total number of cases in the Quad-County region to 12.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. With the continuing spread of COVID-19 within the U.S., the healthcare providers of the greater Lake Tahoe, El Dorado Region are working closely with each other and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as California and Nevada health authorities, to care for affected individuals. We are also jointly taking steps to limit person-to-person spread within our communities.

The Fire Department will allow open burning now through April 19, 2020. The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris.
