The Northern Nevada Dream Center's toiletries bins were over half full after an hour of collecting donations in front of the Carson City area Walmarts on Saturday. Walmart shoppers and community members were eager to donate after hearing about the cause.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center is a group of volunteers with a vision to bring hope and relief to residencts in local communities. The organization aims to meet basic needs of families and individuals by providing assistance.

It’s a great day for music in Carson City. The Annual Concert Under the Stars at Adele’s is already sold out, but there are still options if you didn't get a ticket. Tonight, check out the Jazz Jam at Sassafras with Rick Metz’ First Take, or bring an instrument to the Jam with Josh and Janera at the Firkin and Fox. Glen Eagles features Terri and Craig in the lounge for some, and you’ll find Lynne and Mick at Living the Good Life for dinner entertainment. A new treasure has landed downtown: SpecialTeas Tea Shop at 111 E. Telegraph St. More than just fresh brewed hot and cold teas, this little shop offers yummy sandwiches and Paninis, salads, spring rolls, fresh-baked cookies, muffins, croissants and more. You won’t want to miss their pot pie, which does sell out daily. The food and tea menus rotate monthly, with customer favorites earning a permanent spot.

Whether you are young or old, Christmas is an enjoyable time of the year. Christmas has always been and will always be very special to me. It has been a holiday occasion that, through the years, our family has enjoyed here in Carson City or at the Quilici Cabin near Davis Lake, Calif.

When Carson City throws a Thanksgiving dinner, the Carson Nugget has always delivered. With 60 years now under its belt, the downtown capital city casino again outdid itself with community service, treating nearly 1,000 residents to a free Thanksgiving meal.

Teaming up with Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, guests were stuffed with turkey and all the trimmings, dished up by dozens of volunteers.

Turkey and stuffing and pie, oh my! The Carson Nugget will again be hosting its free Thanksgiving dinner in the Banquet Room from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27 with a helping hand from Friends In Service Helping (FISH) and a some local dignitaries like Mayor Bob Crowell and his wife, Susan.

This is the 60th year the local casino at 507 N. Carson St. has opened its doors to anyone and everyone who would like to partake in turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, yams, green bean casserole, rolls and a variety of pies without the kitchen mess.

New and veteran filmmakers were put to competition to produce a film in just one week. The house was packed and viewers delighted as they watched the screening of the 14 films.

The NV 150 Fair at the Fuji Park Fairgrounds is just three weeks away. Those who shop in that area will have noticed that Fuji Park is undergoing quite the change with additional parking, grading, electrical upgrades and more to get ready for Carson City’s first fair.

Sunday at the Festival of Earthly Treasures was beneficial for both myself and the clients I had the pleasure of serving. I had the opportunity to coach on a variety of topics, from learning how to grow an existing business and bring out the best in a business team to acting with intention to get better results and identifying what creates happiness in life.

The 2014 California fishing season opener on the weekend of April 26 featured bitter cold, gusty winds, wet snow and some big fish.

Lyon County Manager Jeff Page presented a State of the County report to the Lyon County Board of Commissioners at its Thursday meeting. Public safety tops the list of where 2014 general fund money is being spent, making up 42 percent, followed by general government expenditures, Lyon County judicial courts, culture and recreation and public works.

The 59th annual Carson Nugget community Thanksgiving dinner brought hundreds to the annual free Carson City feast, where helpings of good cheer were dished up with mountains of mashed potatoes and plenty of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie.

New to this year's menu, the Carson Nugget joined forces with FISH (Friends in Service Helping) as a way to expand the annual holiday dinner. FISH brought with them 100 turkeys and 25 volunteers.
