Department on this morning’s Easy Walk at Silver Saddle Ranch. Go dancing tonight and take your pick of line dancing at Carson Lanes or beginning swing dance at El Charro’s. Classic movie buffs won’t want to miss out on a showing of the original Little Shop of Horrors at Red’s Old 395.

Race Saturday to traverse historic Flume Trail above Lake Tahoe

The second annual Lake Tahoe Flume Trail Fall Classic Half Marathon, a point-to-point race from Spooner State Park to Tunnel Creek Station, will be Saturday.

“You’ll have spectacular views,” said organizer Kevin Bigley, owner of Ascent Physical Therapy. “It’s a world-famous trail for a reason.”

Nevada tourism looks to social media, adventure for fall and winter visitor rollout

Following approval by the Nevada Commission on Tourism and TravelNevada, officials Wednesday released plans for the Silver State's fall and winter integrated marketing campaign.

Through a variety of enhanced public relations, social and paid media channels, Nevada is again focusing the campaign to Millennials and Young Gen X travelers who have an adventure mindset.

Since 2013, TravelNevada has been using a “Don’t Fence Me In” campaign, featuring a custom rendition of the famous cowboy song recorded by The Killers, to market tourism — Nevada’s No. 1 industry.

Railroad Photographer Exhibition coming to Carson City

In the tradition of Winterail, Silver Rail 2015 is an informal gathering of railroad photographers, artists, writers, historians and preservationists. The event will be Oct. 3 at the Brewery Arts Center and will feature a full day of multimedia presentations of documentary and creative railroad photography and fellowship.

Carson City is going to the dogs this weekend.

“We’re showcasing that Carson City is a dog-friendly community,” said Lisa Schuette, president of the Carson Animal Services Initiative, which is raising money for a new and improved animal shelter.

Coinciding with Bonanza Kennel Club’s annual AKC Dog Show at Fuji Park on today and Sunday, CASI is organizing a weekend of activities for the pups.
The seventh annual Pooch Plunge will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today at the outdoor pool of the Carson City Aquatic Facility.

Many of us will never forget where we were when we first heard about the hijacking and subsequent attacks on the World Trade Center. September 11, 2001 is burned into our collective memory. At 8:30 a.m. this morning there will be a memorial service at the 9/11 Memorial in Mills Park where an I-beam from the fallen towers now serves as a reminder. Even if you cannot make it to the ceremony, please take a moment of silence to remember.

Join Keep Tahoe Blue for their annual beach clean-up at Nevada Beach this morning, then head over to Heavenly Village for a car show and huge winter sports equipment sale.

From Carson City to Silver City, Fallon, Virginia City, Sparks and Lake Tahoe, Sunday is filled with activities as we round the corner into the three-day weekend. There's a 5K Remembrance Run in Carson City, a rib cook-off in Sparks, a farm-to-fork festival culinary festival and fireworks at South Lake Tahoe, the Cantaloupe Festival in Fallon, the Comstock Community Rummage Sale in Silver City and the Great Civil War Days Camp at Virginia City.

Eight Nevada artists earn fellowships from Nevada Arts Council

The Nevada Arts Council has selected eight Nevada artists to receive 2016 Artist Fellowship funding. Four artists were awarded FY16 Artist Fellowships Grants of $5,000, three artists the Fellowship honorable mention awards of $500, and one artist the Artist Fellowship Project Grant of $7,000.

Learn about bats and their habitat at the monthly Francis Humphry Lecture at the Nevada State Museum. There is the Parks and Recreation easy walk in the morning, or the Muscle Powered Conditioning hike in the afternoon. These happen every Tuesday and the location always varies, so you get the chance to explore various trails in our valley. Get your swing on at Eagle Valley Golf Course. It’s Ladies night, so you get some instruction, a few holes, and refreshment.

Industrial Art can be found at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery. The Nevada Arts Council is currently displaying the traveling exhibit ‘Wally’s World.’ Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery is where you’ll find one of a kind pieces made by regional artists, and there is something for almost any price range. Don’t miss the amazing photographs in the Sierra Room of the Community Center.

Carson Tahoe Medical Center is holding its 5th annual HopeFest concert headlined by the Young Dubliners. Carson's own, Molly Seals, will be performing, as well.
