Students of Daryl Frazetti have an opportunity to see their Western Nevada College instructor in a different light this weekend in Reno.

Fifteen incarcerated inmates, some being U.S. military veterans held at the Warm Springs Corrections Center in Carson City will be taking Western Nevada College classes with scholarships generated through an inmate barbecue fundraiser held earlier this year.

There is little argument that every child needs financial and emotional support to grow and flourish. Sierra Nevada College is pleased to announce it will join the University of Nevada, Reno; UNLV, College of Southern Nevada; Great Basin College; Nevada State College; University of Nevada School of Medicine; Western Nevada College; and Truckee Meadows Community College in a grant-funded National Institutes of Health program to develop infrastructure for health-related research and STEM education in the state of Nevada.

Like all students of Carson High School over the past 16 years, Honors Student Tyler Warren, since his freshman year, thought about what he would be doing for his senior project, a graduation requirement for every student who hopes to receive a diploma from CHS.

Tuesday morning at 5 a.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office implemented upgrades made to the key public safety infrastructure system known as Tiburon. The 18-month, $1.2 million project was funded by the Board of Supervisors last year.

More than 15,000 cans of tuna were collected with the help of an area real estate agency that will go to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada as part of its Run on Tuna campaign, a canned food drive that’s part of Hunger Action Month.
