Applications Being Accepted For Carson Valley Medical Center Hospital Foundation Scholarship Program

The Carson Valley Medical Center Hospital Foundation is accepting applications for its annual scholarship award process. The Foundation’s mission is to provide resources to maintain and improve local healthcare services. One of the resources most in demand is highly trained healthcare personnel. The CVMC Hospital Foundation scholarships are intended to assist students in pursuing healthcare careers which will improve not only the local healthcare systems but the healthcare industry overall.

Nevada United Veteran Legislative Council featured at Carson City council of U.S Navy League

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2019 at the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino, Carson City.

Our Dinner and Meeting will be held in the Juniper Room this month. The Social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. and Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m.

City offices close early in Carson City

Heavy snowfall and hazardous road conditions have led the Consolidated Municipality of Carson City to close city offices early Monday.

"Due to the inclement weather and dangerous road conditions, the City Manager and Mayor have decided to close all City offices and allow City employees (other than essential public safety personnel) to leave at 2 p.m. today Monday, Feb. 4," city officials said in an announcement.

The Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday night has been canceled, according to the city web site.

Elderly couple dead in double homicide, investigators say similarities to Douglas murders

UPDATE: 1/18/19 at 3:15PM: According to a story in the Reno Gazette Journal today, the elderly couple found dead in their South Reno home Wednesday have been identified by friends as Jerry and Sherri David. Jerry David was a former president of the Reno Rodeo Association.
The identities of the elderly couple still have not been released by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation into their deaths that have been ruled homicides.

An elderly man and woman died as a result of homicide at their south Reno residence after their bodies were discovered Wednesday, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office confirmed during a press conference.

Carson City Walmart Hosts 15th Annual 'Shop With a Hero' Event for Local Children Wednesday

For the 15th year in a row, community heroes will join together with Walmart, Santa Claus, and a group of holiday cheer-filled volunteers to fulfill local children's Christmas wish lists.

Nevada Highway Patrol reports vehicle versus pedestrian fatality on U.S. 395 north of Minden

UPDATE: 3:30PM: NHP continues to investigate a fatal pedestrian versus vehicle crash Saturday morning that claimed the life of the pedestrian.
According to NHP, the pedestrian was walking on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 395 near the Cradlebaugh Bridge north of Minden when struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at scene by medical personnel, NHP said.
Alcohol, drugs or speed do not seem to be a factor in the crash, NHP said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE 6:15 PM: Firefighters were unable to find the source of any fire and have begun to pull resources off of it, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. Those who were evacuated from the building are now allowed to go back inside.

Carson Valley Medical Center Donates Two AEDs To Douglas High High School Athletics

Douglas High School’s athletic department received a pair of orange-clad Automatic External Defibrillator devices from Carson Valley Medical Center Tuesday afternoon.

CVMC primary care provider Jim Gocke, APRN, and CVMC Hospital Foundation board member Nita Schwartz, MD, were on hand to present the devices to Douglas High student athletes and athletic department administration.
