We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Human remains found in Dayton determined to be old, not related to crime or investigation
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 10/31/2019 - 12:43pmOn Monday, a construction crew was digging a trench in the 200 block of Dayton Valley Road in Dayton, Nev. Workers discovered some bones that appeared to be human and contacted the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Carson City student earns award for designing Computer Science Summit logo

Carson City Sheriff's Office receives grant funds to participate in Joining Forces Program

Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest to begin pile burning in Douglas, Washoe counties

Carson City firefighters called to fully engulfed travel trailer fire off Sneddon Way
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 09/30/2019 - 2:17pmUPDATE 3:05PM: Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon reports the travel trailer was destroyed in the fire. The adjacent house had heat damage to the siding and eaves. There was not any extension of fire into the residence. No one was injured. The cause remains under investigation.
To correct the record, the calls came into dispatch as a motorhome on fire. It turned out it was a travel trailer.

UPDATE 2:37PM: The fire has been knocked down and engines are being released from the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called Monday afternoon to a motor home travel trailer on fire threatening nearby structures in the area of Roberta and Sneddon Way in East Carson City.
Evans Creek Fire southwest of Reno investigated as human caused, fire crews working on containment
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 09/26/2019 - 11:46amCARSON CITY — The 25-acre Evans Creek Fire started Thursday around 2 a.m. and is located southwest of Reno on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District in Evans Canyon area approximately two miles from the Ballardini Ranch Trailhead. The fire was human-caused and under investigation by law enforcement.
Carson City pays respects with words, prayer at 9-11 remembrance Wednesday at Mills Park

The service will take place at the 911 memorial beginning at 6 p.m. The event is hosted by Carson City Christian Ministerial Fellowship. Guest speakers are Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, Sheriff Ken Furlong, Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon and pastors from local ministry.
Carson City Fire Department sends brush unit to Hungry Fire north of Reno

Around 125 firefighting personnel are working the fire, which began Monday afternoon.

Carson City Fire Department has sent a brush unit to the Hungry Valley fire that started Monday afternoon in the Spanish Springs area north of Reno. Multiple fire agencies have been called to help fight the fire, which started around 1 p.m. and is burning in the hills east of the Hungry Valley Colony.
Carson City School District Awarded $1.15 Million School Safety Grant

Special Enforcement Team, Gang Unit arrest three family members for drugs, harboring a fugitive

According to the police report, Adrianna Vanegas 24, Christine Vanegas 47, and Felipe Antonio Vanegas 53, were arrested in the 2200 block of Mayflower Way Thursday afternoon after it was determined Christina and Felipe were harboring their daughter, Adrianna, who was a fugitive for justice and had an outstanding felony burglary warrant for her arrest.
Firefighters use ALERTWildfire cameras to monitor, put brakes on potential catastrophic wildfires
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 09/03/2019 - 9:03amRENO — As fire hazard has built through the summer, ALERTWildfire, a network of mountaintop cameras that helps fire managers spot and monitor fires over large swaths of land, has been on a frenzied pace to reach its goal of adding 300 cameras to the network in the western U.S. by the end of the year. In the past three years the network has been involved with nearly 1,000 fires.
Carson City Fire Department respond to injured motorcycle rider in Brunswick Canyon
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 09/01/2019 - 4:11pmUPDATE: The injured motorcycle rider was treated by Carson City Fire Department personnel and flown via Care Flight to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno, said battalion Chief Jason Danen. His condition is unknown at this time.

Carson City Fire Department was called Sunday afternoon to the Brunswick Canyon area for an injured motorcycle rider in the backcountry. A CareFlight helicopter was ordered and landed in the area near the patient.
Reno-Tahoe Airport to hold safety and security drill

Public Comments at Board of Supervisor Meeting (Opinion)

This procedure was discarded at a later Board meeting as the Mayor said: “I will ask Nancy if she wants the job”. There are numerous city employees and potential outside qualified candidates that were not given an opportunity to apply for this position.
What is even more bizarre, is that the Mayor did not ask Stacy Giomi if he wanted the job, as he had previously applied for this very position.

Reno-Tahoe International expects 12 percent travel increase during July 4 holiday period
