Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called to a structure fire Wednesday afternoon in the area of Harvard Drive in North Carson City.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada National Guard began assisting Washoe County Health District COVID-19 sample collection capability Friday at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center with about 30 medical support personnel.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak issued a Declaration of Emergency on Wednesday that would continue to support districts and schools in providing opportunities for students to learn from a distance during the COVID-19 pandemic. CARSON CITY — Nevada arts and culture organizations and artists affected by the coronavirus pandemic will be receiving help from the federal stimulus package approved in Congress.

The Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the 2020-2021 county’s Tentative Budget on April 1, 2020. The County Manager and Comptroller have recommended the budget with no salary increases and a projected 6.6% ending fund balance which is lower than the 16.67% authorized by Nevada Revised Statutes.

The County Manager also recommended that the Board not fund any of the 35.8 positions requested by the various departments including:

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has joined Nevada sheriffs in all 17 counties statewide in agreeing to a 120-day temporary extension for all Concealed Weapons Permits (CCW) that have expired, or will expire, on or after March 12, 2020.

Carson City Fire Department responded early Wednesday evening to a reported gas leak at a South Carson Street grocery store. The gas smell was determined to be coming from a semi-truck that had blown a tire.

STATELINE — Watercraft inspections to prevent the introduction of aquatic invasive species in Lake Tahoe have halted until at least April 16 in response to Nevada and California Executive Orders on COVID-19, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Tahoe Resource Conservation District.

MINDEN — In response to COVID-19 Douglas County officials continue to work closely with Carson City Health and Human Services and a regional Emergency Operations Center that has been set up in Carson City to ensure compliance with the Governor’s directive while working in partnership to keep Douglas County residents safe.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting one new positive case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. This brings the total number of cases in the Quad-County region to four.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Sunday to a gas leak in the 900 block of North Stewart.

The call came into dispatch at around 9:30 a.m. The gas leak was confirmed and fire department personnel worked to get it clamped. Traffic in the area of Valley and Stewart streets was re-directed. Southwest Gas has been notified.

CARSON CITY — Following an earthquake which hit the Carson City area on Friday, March 20, the Nevada Department of Transportation inspected bridges for potential damage. No bridges were found to have visible damage relating to the earthquake.

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. Western Nevada College will move to remote, online instruction effective March 23, and will continue in this manner for the remainder of the spring semester. Our faculty and staff are working diligently to finalize plans to migrate classes to remote instruction, primarily Canvas.

On Sunday, March 8, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) contacted states, including Nevada, with notification that 21 passengers aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This ship had been floating off the California coast since Thursday when those 21 passengers tested positive. We have received confirmation from federal authorities that the 49 passengers from Nevada are asymptomatic.

On Thursday afternoon Central Lyon Fire was dispatched to a house fire in Silver Springs that left multiple people displaced and one with minor injuries.

CARSON CITY — Comedy thru the Ages, the 2020 production of the Carson Follies, is seeking actors, dancers, singers and stage personnel for its upcoming show July 10-12. Auditions will be held Thursday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City.

Somebody simply must stop the bleed, and Sierra Lutheran High School is responding to that challenge. Recently, the faculty and staff of the Christian college prep high school in Carson City became the first schoolwide staff in Douglas County to take part in the national bleed kit training being promoted by The National Stop the Bleed Campaign.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Housing Division’s Home Is Possible programs have helped 21,970 homebuyers realize the dream of homeownership in Nevada since the program launched in September 2014 through calendar year 2019.
