Partnership Carson City

PAL meets every Tuesday night at Partnership Carson City, 1925 N Carson St at 6 p.m. to provide continuing education and support, at no charge, for parents, spouses and those trying to save a family member from addiction to alcohol or drugs. By attending our meetings, you will learn proven ways to help your loved one find recovery from addiction. You will also give and receive support from others who are facing the same challenges you are. Everyone over 18 is welcome to attend. No need to register, just show up at a meeting.

Soroptimist International of Carson City is pleased to announce our “Women Helping Women” Honorees to be recognized for their dedication to improving the lives of women or girls in our community, at our inaugural “Celebrating Women Helping Women” event on Feb. 20, 2020 at the Carson Nugget, from 5:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The first Carson City School Board Meeting of 2020 will take place Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion includes an election of officers of the Board of Trustees, including Board President, Vice President, and Clerk for the ensuing year, discussion on funding, and more.

Heading into Christmas Eve, activities around the capital city are winding down, but the last minute shopping will continue, so prepare for that rush on the roadways and at local stores. It is the last day of the Holiday Craft Show at Carson Mall, so stop on by. There are no planned Muscle Powered fitness events scheduled. Clouds will roll into the capital city region Tuesday keeping temperatures quite chilly. In December, Mondays don't really seem like Monday. At least for those of us caught up in the holiday spirit of giving and kindness. What a weekend of community fellowship this was among Carson City locals and we're just getting started, counting down the days until Christmas.

Snow days, snow way. At least that's what the weather forecast calls for Tuesday. We'll see mostly cloudy skies before another chance of rain or snow arrives midweek and then a larger storm in time for the weekend. As the saying goes of Nevada weather: Wait a minute and it will change. It is also #GivingTuesday. If you have a favorite organization, it's a good time to send a few dollars their way. Carson High and Douglas High teaming up together is right up there with the appearing of Halley’s Comet. Officially designated 1P/Halley, this is a short-period comet visible from Earth every 75–76 year and is the only known short-period comet that is visible to the naked eye from Earth and the only naked-eye comet that might appear twice in a human lifetime.

Ahead Tuesday include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a "haunted" cemetery tour at Lone Mountain, a business networking meeting at Casino Fandango and the Fat Tuesday business networking group at Carson Nugget, archery at Centennial Park and more. Partnership Carson City's annual prescription drug roundup Saturday netted 273 pounds of pills and 114 pounds of needles.

There are a number of prescription drug roundups happening this Saturday, Oct. 19 around the region, including drop-off stations in Carson City, Douglas County and Dayton.

These annual events help protect the community with proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, prescription liquids, pet medications, syringes and more. The effort is part of the federal drug round-up initiative.
