Bring some art into your new year with one of our many art exhibits. The Nevada Artist Association has just switched up their gallery and has a New Year’s show to offer you. The group also works with the Carson Visitor Bureau and showcases a different artist each month in the Visitors’ Center: currently Bob Hickox. Comma Coffee is hosting a reception this evening for the January artist in their revolving Backseat Gallery, so head down at 5 p.m. for some finger food and the unveiling.

Welcome to Monday, Carson City. The holidays have passed and it’s time to embrace the new year. If you’re looking for some new hobbies and habits, try swing dancing. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets weekly at El Charro Avita. If you’re looking for more quality time with your family, then Nerdvana’s Family Game Night is a great way to have fun with the kids. My snow dance worked! The weather should start clearing up for the next few days, so the roads should be clear. There’s no need to leave our valley though, great things are happening. The annual Share Your Christmas food drive goes on for most of the day: you don’t even need to leave your car, just drive up to the Governor’s Mansion, and someone will get your donation to the right place. Unwind, decompress and relax at a number of our great bars and restaurants.

A rubber and plastic manufacturer will move its plastic division from California to Carson Valley in Douglas County and bring 40 jobs along with it, officials with Northern Nevada Development Authority announced Thursday.

VIP Rubber and Plastic has purchased a building near Johnson Lane and plans a Jan. 4, 2016 opening. The company's main manufacturing facility will remain in La Habra, Calif.

The Tahoe Ridge Winery Bistro & Marketplace opened its new location on South Carson Street today.

Today was a "soft opening," and they plan to be open daily starting tomorrow.

They feature wine tasting, wines by the glass, wine flights, as well as food and merchandise.

Tahoe Ridge is located near Carson Mall. The Winery's first location in Minden is also open for business.

Wonderful Wednesday is upon us, and one way to get over the hump is to head out for a good meal. If you haven’t heard yet, Sassafras has returned and is serving up its Eclectic fare in its new location right next to the Carson Hot Springs. Downtown, the Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. will be hosting the Chamber of Commerce for its Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting. Capital Eats inside Westside Pour House (former home of Mo and Sluggo’s) always has some tempting dishes. A little further north on Carson St., Living the Good Life Nightclub and Bistro has live music this evening and a delicious array of options on its menu.

This weekend's traditional MLK service and car caravan will originate in a new location, said Bishop Gene Savoy, Jr., Chair of the Northern Nevada Martin Luther King, Jr., Holiday Committee.

The 29th Annual Interfaith Community Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship, 780 Del Monte Lane Lane in south Reno. This represents a change from the longtime former venue, Reno's Second Baptist Church. The Second Baptist Choir will perform on Sunday.

Among the items, the board:

Charter Communications will open its newly relocated retail store in Carson City. The existing Charter store, located at 284 E. Winnie Lane, will close at 2 p.m. Saturday and will reopen Monday at a new, larger facility, at 3745 N. Carson Street.

"Beyond a new, larger location, the new store allows for hands-on demonstrations of Charter’s products, said Kim Haas, regional communications director for Charter.
