CARSON CITY, Nev. — Artist Patricia Wallis has a background in plein air and aerial painting, having spent much of her 30-year career in Marin County, Calif.

Moving to Reno, she found a completely new palette of color in the landscape. Another change she made in in the past decade was a decision to work exclusively on copper, which gives the image a unique luminescence not found when working on canvas or board. Oil painting on copper goes back to the 15thcentury although it is rarely used by contemporary artists.

The Children's Museum in Carson City will host a Summer Science Camp this year. Participants will get hands on lessons in science, art, music and literary projects tied to the Carson River watershed, as well as learning about regional geology and mining, geothermal and solar energy, biomes of Northern Nevada and hot air balloons.

In celebration of Historic Preservation and Archaeological Awareness month, the Carson City Historic Resource Commission has organized the 10th Annual Scavenger Hunt. This year’s hunt focuses on the history and culture of the capital city. The Commission crafted the hunt to be an event the family can do together.

Nevada Letters About Literature student competition winners named; advance to national competition

Nevada Humanities has announced the winners of the statewide Letters About Literature program. 243 students from Nevada submitted entries to the national competition at the Library of Congress, and nine Nevada students placed in the top three of their respective judging categories and will be honored in a ceremony in Las Vegas on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. The first place winners in each category will represent Nevada at the national competition in Washington, D.C.

Happy Easter, Carson City! Here's the schedule for today

Good morning Carson City, and Happy Easter! Today will be more of the same with partly cloudy skies, gentle breezes, possible showers, with a high of 62 degrees and a low of 37 degrees. On the schedule today we have day two of egg hunting at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, an Easter Sunday service at the Community Center, a community bike ride, and more!

Adorable egg-snatching riot breaks out on Nevada Railroad Museum Lawn

The first of two egg hunts at the Nevada Railroad Museum was a hit with the Easter hunters. Eggs filled with prizes, toys and stuffed animals were up for grabs during the hunt which lasted about one entire minute before the lawn was picked clean.

The Easter Bunny was on site for pictures, and inside the museum there will be children’s activities such as face painting, coloring stations, and more.

Festivities will continue throughout Saturday and then Sunday. The schedule is as follows:
