'Splice' at the Galaxy a muddled Frankenstein update

“Splice,” a 2009 movie that won some independent film awards, is playing at the Carson City Fandango Galaxy for the next couple of weeks, depending on how many people plunk down several dollars to see the film. It’s a sc-fi fantasy outing, with the plot lifted more or less from the Dr. Frankenstein concept of Mary Shelly.

DVD Movie Review: 'Bad Manners' is Sort of Good Fun

"Bad Manners” is very much what its title says: four people spend a weekend together seeing how bitter and tricky they can be. It’s available at video stores or at the Carson City Library.

'The Sound of Music' comes to Carson City May 7-16

CARSON CITY – The hills will come to life in Carson City this May as the Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company brings Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beloved musical, 'The Sound of Music' to the Carson City Community Center.

A great double-play for skiers and hikers: Death Valley and Mammoth

With so many of the mountain resorts staying open well into May there's a marvelous chance to combine skiing and hiking in one glorious wind-up of a great season.

I did this once and enjoy it immensely, hiking in the low and then turning around and skiing on the high. It was May of a couple of years ago when I loaded the car with camping gear and tucked a pair of skis on the roof rack. I headed south down 395, inflated with the idea of hiking around Death Valley National Park and then stopping off at Mammoth Mountain on the way home to ski.

A good friend and very reliable source told me he saw our newly single governor last week at the Century Summit Sierra theater in south Reno, standing by himself in line to see the movie "It's Complicated."
