2019 Carson City National Night Out earns top 3 rank in the nation

The Carson City National Night Out event held in August has been awarded third in the nation among communities with a population of 50,000 to 100,000. Significantly, Carson City was the only Nevada jurisdiction to receive an award this year.

CARSON CITY — Sierra Lutheran High School and Fellowship of Christian Athletes are partnering to cultivate support for Trees For the Troops, a local effort to generate funds to gift Christmas trees to active military at the Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, Calif.

Christmas tree permits in Lake Tahoe Basin available beginning Nov. 25

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of Christmas tree permits on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019. Permits cost $10 each payable by cash, check or credit card. Please note, cash sales are quicker and allow for more efficient payment processing.

Carson City elementary school's CLS class receives $5,000 donation from Dolan Auto Group

The Carson City School District would like to share special thanks to Dolan Auto Group for donating $5,000 to Fremont Elementary School’s Comprehensive Life Skills class. The money was awarded as part of a community benefit program the dealership hosts each year.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Carson City, Douglas County locals enlist in the United States Army

The Carson City Army Recruiting Station is proud to welcome two of our newest Future Soldiers, Alissa Lucas and Taylor Clark. Alissa Lucas is currently a Senior at Carson High School and a member of the Junior ROTC.

She chose to attend training to be Military Police and will leave after high school graduation. Taylor Clark is from Gardnerville and a 2019 graduate of Douglas High School. She chose to become an Intelligence Analyst and leaves for Basic Training in November. Congratulations to you both for making the decision to serve our country!

Aviation Legend Clay Lacy takes time out from the Reno Air Races to visit a life long friend George Byard. Lacy and Byard met in the mid 50s while Byard worked for Gulf Stream. Friday they got to meet and tell old stories. Both men have spent their lives expanding aviation.
